Whilst I've criticised Neil for his lack of flexibility in maximising what he does have in his short time here, I'm not daft either and can see that for more long term success he will need a complete overhaul of the squad bar a few.
Keeper (two probably)
Sterling permanent Two new centre halves at least (one to replace Jags and one to replace Wilmot), possibly three if Souttar leaves. Left back/centre half to give us flexibility to move to a back four.
Entire new midfield to give him the 'runners and riders' that he needs rather than ball players.
A more mobile and grafting number ten
A strong centre forward.
Two wingers given he clearly doesn't rate what we have in the building.
Make no mistake, it's yet another mammoth task that won't be done in one window.

This window we will be a little restricted won't we?. Are we not up to the maximum number of loan players we can have at any one time?.

Realistically a keeper and a defensive mid. Possibly a right back as well.
What many fail to remember is that when you get a player who performs consistently well at this level he's probably soon to move on. Souttar was likely on his way pre injury and now probably will again. If Powell stayed healthy he'd be looking up, if Campbell got a consistent work rate the same. Tymon was linked to a bunch of teams when he was on form.
Saying things like Wilmont is not good enough or we need a new striker is just unrealistic. We have seen player like Wilmont and Brown play well at this level. But they are inconsistent, hence why they are still wit us. That is the level you live with when you are a mid championship team. We will never field a team full of players the level of Souttar because there are not that many out there that will stay on a team at our current level.
If we can find marginal improvement in our weakest areas we will win a lot more games. Just look at the league table to see how fine the margins are.

When we reach the playoffs in April and win the promotion final in May to begin a new PL adventure in August, we have to think of bringing a few players in after all, I guess. What areas? What would You search for? ⚽🤠👍
