Yes, I believe he did. Very solid player. As I recall, he came into the first team at age 16. So maybe youngest ever to play for Stoke?

Randomly there’s a fantastic picture of him on the wall in a hotel in Florence, god knows how it got there. Before my time but one I wished I’d seen play

So sad to hear the death of Tony Allen Best left back I ever saw I would have to go along with that from a Stokie point of view. Pej probably ran him a fairly close second but Tony Allen just oozed sheer quality, elegance and class. Used to love it when England teams were announced and he was in there. It bought a feeling of real pride about being a Stokie. He was a fair cricket player from memory too. Heaven has inherited a new real star. RIP.

He was a class act. I'd have a job to choose between him and Pej as the best left back we've had but I don't think you could get a fag paper between them. So sad to lose him, another part of our positive past history.
Sincere condolences to family and close friends.
OS doffs flat cap to Tony.

According to this, Tony Allen was the target of an incident that led to expansion of the offence violent conduct: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Allen_(footballer)My Dad often recounts with delight a story of standing on the Stoke End when Allen was playing as sweeper. The match was a boring one, the crowd in complete silence. The ball was played in the direction of Allen in the Stoke End penalty area. Suddenly, a supporter piped up with a big booming voice: “GET YOUR BRUSH OUT ALLEN!!!” Cue uproar in the crowd 🙂

I'm another Stokie who saw Tony playing regularly at the time I started to go regularly to Stoke games. A VERY classy player - deserved Man of the Match many times -or would have done had there been such a thing in his day. Like OS above I am torn between naming him or Pej as our best left back. As OS says, not much between them, although Pej was always more of an attacking left back than Tony.
RIP

He was before my time but according to wiki after ending his playing career he returned to Stoke where he became a newsagent in Blythe Bridge.
Hard to imagine a player these days with 3 England caps and 450 mostly top flight league games under his belt going on to run a newsagents?
I mean it would be strange to pop in to a newsagent next weekend for a copy of Fiesta Readers Wives and find for example Ryan Shawcross behind the counter popping it in to a brown paper bag for you and handing you your change.

That's desperately sad news
What a wonderful footballer he was. Deserved many more England caps than he received.
I look forward to seeing the club paying a worthy tribute to him. One of the Stoke all time greats.

Yep its correct, newsagents opposite the school on Uttoxeter Road. I used to pop in now and again as I did in Blutos Trentham Road shop just to say hello and buy a paper. I never saw Tony play I don't think, my first games were 69 ish so I may have done but can't remember. RIP Tony Allen, another one of Waddos' gone.

He also ran the newsagents in Blythe Bridge (where I used to buy my fags and papers when I stupidly used to smoke).

I'd not heard of him but what a bio, born in Stoke, 417 games for Stoke over 13 years is an incredibly achievement, 7th all time top capped players just ahead of Ryan.
