Sweden played in Girona vs Mexico. We won by 2-1. It was a friendly of course and we had to be without some key players. Mexico missed at least one forward star as well.
But the performance from the swedes were excellent. Prior to this game though, Sweden had three victories in a row against the mexicans and not one goal conceded. I don't know why, since we sometimes struggle against some lower ranked teams.
Rohdén, a 31 year old forward did it well and scored. He has been away from the National team for years, not picked, but they're already talking about the Rohdén-effect.
Holm was excellent, usually playing for Spezia in Italy.
But the best player of them all was Gustafson, who won the gold with Häcken in the first division, called Allsvenskan. A calm midfielder who made the best debut for any player in a swedish dress for a very long time.
It looks extremely promising when these and a few more got the chance to play.
Euro 2024 in Germany, here we come.
It's a bit sad they didn't try these players in the last 6-7 games. Then it would have been a different Qatar 2023.

Useless fact...Mexico are the biggest underachievers so to speak in World Cup history. Most qualifications without going beyond the 1/4 finals.

They're always involved in one really good game I've found.

They're always involved in one really good game I've found. They ran Germany Close in 98 good game I recall. I also remember them being too strong for France in 2010 think they won 2-0.

Ran rings round Ireland, yep. This one? Classic Aldridge 😏 Jack did a great interview on The Late Late Show in Ireland He said along the lines of...I explained to the 4th official that he'd made an error on his substitution list. Gay Byrne the interviewer just said...I think you did more than just explain to him to be fair 😁

But not one mention of apologising for the language like you get from the woke brigade these days😉

We went into shopping mall nearby, nice and air cooled and was a Tex Mex restaurant and bar in there, real cheap also. Was 2 of in in there, within an hour was a line outside when others realised was beer to be had. I don't think the poor lad behind the bar quite expected it but had a tip jar crammed with notes.

Historically they have been the big fish in a very small pond. Central & N America has been and remains by far the weakest qualification zone. Is that right? I always thought Oceania was the weakest zone? Infact, I'm pretty sure that Australia fucked off to join the Asia zone as they were sick of getting beat by some South American team as the Oceania winners didn't even get direct qualification & instead had to play-off against the 4th/5th/6th/or whatever it was South American team?

Very true. I did our works sweepstake today, it was like FIFA but without the dolly birds and old crooks. It made me realise how many terrible sides are in the tournament. I much prefer the competitiveness of the Euros. And FIFA want to dilute the quality further by introducing more teams. It was fine at 24

True to be fair although Central & N America have been guaranteed a qualifier for a lot longer
