Anyone remember (I'm sure loads of you will, it was a big hit) a tune from, I wanna say the late 80's (Maybe early 90's?) that had some mint saxophone action in it? Pretty sure it was a 'one hit wonder', went on for a good 6 or 7 minutes (I think!) and had two or three sections where the saxophone took over with some mint sound, and another bit where there was some ace guitar solo.
Loads of you are deffo going know it but I'll be fucked if I can remember what it's called!

You'll both nodoubt laugh at this but I think what has made me think it was a late 80s/early 90s is because I've been sat here for hours wracking my brain & every, bastard, time the answer I would give myself was "It's 'Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something"... I knew that wasn't the answer, the song sounds fuck all like it, infact I don't even think it's got a saxophone in it at all, but every bastard time I felt the answer was on the tip of my tongue my brain would throw up Breakfast at fucking Tiffany's!

Couple of bits of trivia re Baker St
1. The saxophonist on the track was a guy by the name of Raphael Ravenscroft who was born in Stoke-on-Trent.
2. Gerry Rafferty started out in a folk band called 'The Humblebums' the banjo player for who was one Billy Connolley.

Oh - and by the way - the sax break was a rip off of a song written 10 years earlier

I know the one mate. Anyway I'm lucky, I can't remember how "It's Breakfast at Tiffany's" goes so I can't get an earworm of that. Mind you I've had an earworm of "Pacific State" by 808 State all day after thinking it might be that one!

Oh - and by the way - the sax break was a rip off of a song written 10 years earlier Oh yeah... same notes, same key change. I wonder if it was intentional or unconscious. George Harrison claimed that My Sweet Lord being a rip off of this Chiffons one was unconscious...

Still - would have been an interesting court case - for while 'Baker St' was estimated to have earned Rafferty £80k a year for life in royalties and airplay - Ravenscroft was paid a one off session musician's fee of £27.50!

And the 1992 cover mentioned above.

Two things today for me so far….. That Raphael Ravenscroft was a Stokie who played the best known Sax solo in the world. And, that Bob Holness was a South African.

Although Slash toured with Guns 'n' Roses and played on live performances Bob played guitar on the Album version of 'Sweet Child o' Mine". A less well known fact however is that Carol Voorderman played drums on the same track due to her having the same hairdresser as Axl Rose.

The Bob Holness thing was a myth started by the NME although his daughter was in the one hit wonder band Toto Coelo. I remember him giving her a plug on Blockbusters

You're confusing with another Stoke born rock icon - Saul 'Slash' Hudson. Slash wasn't born in Stoke, he's from down south somewhere (Watford way I think?) He just moved to Stoke very early on, infact, a woman who lives near me used to babysit for him when he was a kid living in Blurton. Thanks to the wonders of the internet she got in touch with him a few years back, told him what stories she used to read & shit so he knew it was her, then when he next toured over here she got VIP access to his shows.
