Probably the worst offside decision I’ve seen. What is the linesman seeing here? Edit - picture ain’t the best but you can just about see where Gayle & the defenders are. Attachment Deleted

Was a shocker yep.
Perhaps he thought they were both Luton goalkeepers in blue. Could understand him seeing bugger all at their place where they have a dim light bulb for floodlights but that was bizarre

Pretty sure he gave it for Delap. The liners movement signalling stepping back suggests so too.

Offside is a complex mess of a rule at the best of times, but when you have officials this bad, its a joke.

Was on par with Beeston at Barnsley being flagged for running on to his own pass when they played the offside trap

When I saw the replay that's all I could think but you couldn't really tell if Delap was off either. If that was the case it was a glacially slow flag with no obvious reason for the delay. The other linesman took an age to put his flag up on one of their offsides as well. There's no need as we're not using VAR. Just stick the fucking flag up.

I'm not sure what the linesman's job is any more anyway. They don't seem to do anything.

I'm not sure what the linesman's job is any more anyway. They don't seem to do anything. They changed their title to 'Assistant Ref' but do they EVER 'assist' with anything on the pitch? They struggle to get offsides and throw in's right. Mind you they generally compliment the refs who are almost universally fucking useless as well.

I initially thought that Delap must have come back from an offside position when he touched the ball first but who knows watching that🤔

I initially thought that Delap must have come back from an offside position when he touched the ball first but who knows watching that🤔 It’s impossible to tell from that clip mate because you can’t see how far the ball travelled to get to Delap but even so he looked miles onside as well. And Gayle wasn’t in an offside position at any point. 🤷♂️ Doesn’t really surprise me though. Officials are generally utterly crap.

The guy on Saturday in front of the Tile Mountain was frankly embarrassingly bad and I'm sure we had him not long ago (Watford maybe) and he was somehow even worse.

From that still photo of play I think from the linesmans position he's in line with 2x defenders that are to the left of the Stoke players and must have thought that they were the last line of defence as the other pair are so far to the right than the Stoke players he's clearly got his defensive line wrong. Once flagged and refs blown decisions made and just have to follow it through as a non correct offside call. He clearly flags after the pass goes forward and neither Stoke player are offside. If he's flagged for an offside offence that occured prior to this move it's a separate movement of play thats elapsed & the games moved on since then so kind of resets.
I know it's a tough job being an official, especially when everything's going at 100mph but I think on this occasion the liners had a mare and made an error. Fortunately it didn't impact the result or match outcome.
