I'm surprised by the criticism of:
Bonham - may not be a huge improvement on Bursik ability wise but consistent and communicates better with the defence and consequently they are more confident in him.
Delap - ran his socks off and with any luck could have had 2/3 goals, big improvement on early season form. Still needs to be better in the air but if he keeps learning he could have a good second half of the season. Looked a much better option than Campbell or Brown tonight.
Gayle - defended from the front and like Delap ran his socks off and put in some clever passes. Unlike Delap he wins a lot in the air for a relatively short bloke.
Also thought Souttar looked as if he hadn't been away defensively although his passing was a bit rusty. But it was great to see a centre half brave enough to get his head on everything in the air and determined enough to get a toe in or body block. Candidate for MOM for me. We'd have lost without him.

I don’t agree. We did what we have allowed so many teams to do to us, get a goal or two up then get men behind the ball, effectively challenging the opposition to break down the defence, which they were unable to do. Souttar is such an asset in those sort of situations. It isn’t the most fun tactic to watch as a fan but having had a flying start we were for the most part well-organised, solid, and professional for the rest of the match. Luton really struggled to break us down. Their two decent sights of goal came from a corner and after a suicidal pass from Fox to Wilmot. In general play we more than had their measure. Not a game that will live long in the memory but a decent team performance for me. Far better than Coventry or Birmingham. Luton missed 2 absolute sitters and wasted several other good chances. We were lucky.; it was a nice change. What were there “several other good chances”? Their two actual chances, assumedly the ones you’re calling sitters, were the two I mentioned, one from a set piece and one benefitting from poor play in our defence. Aside from that they created very little. They were limited to knocking crosses in which we dealt with well and shots from range which didn’t trouble Bonham. They had a lot of the ball but that was in no small part because we were happy to let them have it and defend having taken a commanding early lead. But having possession doesn’t equate to playing well if you do nothing with it. It was a dogged, largely well-organised, albeit unglamorous performance, following two decent early goals which allowed us to switch to a more conservative game plan. If you can’t see that I think you’re being unduly negative.

Thought the all round effort and commitment gave everyone who played a good solid 6 as a starting point. Over and above that Souttar did really well for a 1st game back, Fosu and Smallbone put themselves about quite effectively and Delap did ok too. That aside I thought the actual standard of some of the play was unbelievably poor.

I think Bonham has a bit of an image problem. People mark him down because he’s lanky and signed from Gillingham. In terms of actual goalkeeping aside from the dropped cross in the first half I thought he did well. If we sign Iversen and he put in the exact same performance people would be scoring it 7 and 8. Delap had a decent game I thought. Gave their defenders a lot to think about and actually connected properly with his two shots, which has been a weakness of his. Both were going in had it not been for an excellent block and good save. I wish he’d look at the ball more instead of always trying to knock defenders out of the way first. If he did that he’d probably win more headers and hold the ball up better. I thought Gayle had one of his weaker games though and would have liked to see him subbed earlier than he was. His confidence looks shot at the moment. There was a time in the first half when he was running at one of their defenders in a dangerous position and just never looked like beating him.

Bonham was pretty crap and I regret giving him 6 tbh. Strikers that run around and offer little else aren’t good. Re Delap I’m surprised so many are marking him so high. He couldn’t control the ball last night.

I don’t disagree with the majority of he rating everybody gave.
However.
Souttar performance first game back for 12 months was outstanding and gets a 10 from me !
Powell was outstanding in his more favoured position sitting behind a front 2
Smallbone positioned deeper was great, he is not a number 10
Delap I actually love an old fashioned centre forward who creates havoc with defenders with his physicality. Forget he came from Man City as he is 19 and has Stoke City written all over.

He flapped at 2 and looked like a subutteo keeper on through balls Came and collected a few times where Bursik wouldn’t have and we’d have conceded possession. He was worse than Bursik but got away with it twice in the 2nd half with his flapping. His kicking was truly awful and have away possession numerous times. But hey....it's not Bursik so it's fine.

Bonham 6 did what he needed to do and looked ok a couple of good saves Fosu 6 huffed and puffed but not a lot of end product Fox 8 MOM for me 2 assists and some really good defensive work Souttar 7 looked a bit rusty in the first half but good to see him back Wilmot 6 did what he needed to do a couple of mistakes but they didn't cost us Clarke 7 seemed to have dropped a bit deeper his defending looked better last night Baker 5 needs to be more commanding and some of his set pieces weren't great Smallbone 6 good game played deeper and it looked like this is where he should be playing from now Powell 7 good late run for his goal and took it well faded as the game went on Gayle 7 ran his bollox off, never gave in and probably the most fouled player on the pitch Delap 5 so frustrating, always caught looking at the defenders around him, held onto the ball too long, tried to take on players when there was always a better option. Subs; Brown 5 took a booking as soon as he came on and didn't really make any impact Tymon 5 not much time for him to make any sort of influence Gouranga.

As frustrating as Delap is, I like watching him just being an absolute pain in the arse. I am sure they must be talking to him about trying to be a bit less physical, at least until the ball is received. He is so obvious with his intentions sometimes when the ball is travelling towards him. He really has all the components to make it, it's just putting them in the right place. There won't be many players who are as much of a handful as he is at 19.
Bonham - 6 Clarke - 6 Wilmot - 5 Souttar - 7 Fox - 8 Baker - 5 Smallbone - 6 Powell - 7 Fosu - 7 Delap - 6 Gayle - 6

Was I watching a different game? Smallbone was completely peripheral for the vast majority of the game!

Bonham 6, couple of 'flaps' but he clearly communicates with the defenders better than Joe
Clarke 6, good athlete Wilmot 6, lost his man at a corner but overall decent Souttar 7, great to see him back, decent game and will get better as match fitness improves Fox 7, two excellent crosses...now he needs to teach Baker how to do it. That free kick across the itch to Wilmot wtf!
Baker 5, not his best Smallbone 6, got better as the game went on Powell 8, I love his composure on the ball. Took his goal well
Gayle 6, gave his all Fosu 7, drives us forward Delap 7, got in where it hurt to force the og and that shot 2nd half was a beauty
