Interesting re this heading and height thing as they aren’t necessarily mutual. For a big fella I felt Crouch’s heading was below par. At the other end of the scale, remember David Speedie? Wiki has him as 5’7” and yet he scored a shed full of goals with his head. I think heading technique can be worked upon, but I think the biggest factor is whether a player is willing to put their head in a place where it may get hurt. Irrespective of whether a player likes to head a ball or not, there isn’t an excuse to at least be semi competent in it, just as you would for any other skill. Was Crouch’s heading “below par”? If so, how come he still holds the record for the most headed goals in the history of the premier league? Below par for someone 6'7"

Float a cross up to the back post and he was the best in the business, a punt from the keeper and you couldn't get an Evening Sentinel between him and the grass.........
