Having been at the Bet365 yesterday and also watched one and a half (Spurs v Newcastle) games today I have noticed a change in the officials handling of Off Side decisions. Over recent seasons there has been a definite reluctance for Linesmen to flag for offsides even when blatantly obvious.
The reasoning for this I understand, but don’t agree with, was to see the outcome and then make a belated decision.
Yesterday and today-the officials seem to have been flagging and giving the decisions as they used to in past years. If true a definite improvement in my opinion. Hopefully this is not a misconception on my behalf but a change for the better. ?
The wait and see what happens was stupid and very frustrating.

The rule makers don’t half make a total pigs ear of offside rules year after year. This year at least has seen a bit of an improvement in the flag going up quicker

It's only going take a player getting a serious injury when they play on to sort this out. Crazy it's been going on a few years now

The rule has not basically changed. It’s the interpretation of how to apply it.
It really has been a mess now for some time and causes much confusion and controversy. From where I sit in the Franklin a few yards out from the eighteen yard line I get a very clear view and am constantly staggered at the number of times clear offsides (both for or against) are not given.
As a retired ex official I know that Referees and Linesmen are often issued with directives of both changes in, and how, to interpret the rules. My initial post was to wonder if such a change has recently taken place?
If not it is worthy of discussion.
