Bursik 5 - we’ll never go up with him in goal Sterling 7 - good movement and passing Jagielka 8 - dominant in the air and passing good too Wilmot 7 - quiet game, looked to move ball forward Fox 6 - steady enough, delivery could have been better Baker 5 - set pieces were pants Laurent 6 - didn’t notice him and we dominated possession Campbell 5 - on target plenty but easy saves Gayle 6 - not many would have the class for that through ball but quiet otherwise Delap 5 - more sitters missed Fosu 6 - plenty of effort, delivery not great and was going down easily and wasting possession
Powell 6 DWP 6 Brown 5 - fuck me, if he’d played like that for 90 minutes he’d do well to get a 3 Clarke 6 Thompson 6

All deserve a 7 tonight.
Good performance but once we went a goal down was always difficult with their defensive record.

Bursik 6 Wilmot 6 Jagielka 6 Fox 6
Above were spectators for most of the game.
Sterling 6 - looked threatening on occasion but flattered to deceive.
Baker 4 - really poor tonight including his set pieces
Laurent 4 - so anonymous for most of the game. Not really needed once they put 11 men behind the ball after 10 mins
Fosu 6 - tried but struggled.
Campbell 7 - easily our best player. Should have scored that header.
Delap 6 - look better with him in the team than not.
Gayle 4 - okay first half but awful second half
Thompson 6 - odd sub
Powell 6 - unlucky with the header
Brown 3 - back to the old JB. Falling over, miscontrolling and a wild swing at a decent opportunity in the closing stages.
Clarke 5 - odd sub
DWP 5 - not sure what his best position is.

Bursik 6 unsighted for the goal Sterling 6 linked play but no real cutting edge Jagielka 7 Organised us well Wilmot 6 Standard day at the office Fox 6 hit the first man with 2 many crosses Baker 6 became more desperate as time passed Laurent 6 standard day at that office Campbell 6 decision making and shooting🤦♂️ Gayle 5 to deep for me, needs a goal Delap 6 handful but lacks guile Fosu 6 effort a plenty little imagination
Powell 5 no impact DWP 6 good effort Brown 5 looked rusty Clarke 5 added no quality Thompson 6 steady performance

Some poor marks there for what was overall a good performance. No one deserved less than 7. And I’d give Jags Fosu and Campbell 8s

Your description of Brown was basically Campbell. Although I thought Campbell played generally ok overall his shooting, and decision making was absolutely woeful

And 0 goals - a good argument for low marks. Just playing devils advocate here for a second… I have seen countless remarks on here before now when we have ground out a 0-0 draw and played god awful football or scraped a horrible 1-0 win where we have been under the cosh all night (just like Rotherham tonight) and people have said that they would prefer to watch attacking football, have a go and get beat than watch us play ‘Pulis ball’ or negative/defensive football. What would your opinion be on that? As there can’t be an argument that we didn’t try and attack, create and go for it. The proverbial kitchen sink was thrown tonight to try and get the win (maybe apart from the Clarke substitution but he scored last time we did that)

We lost today because of terrible finishing.

Bursik 6 Sterling 7 like this guy, looks threatening Jagielka 8 Wilmot 7 Fox 7 Baker 6 Laurent 6.5 Campbell 5 just not his night Gayle 6 Delap 5 showed some glimpses second half but free header miss was very poor Fosu 6.5 falls over too much but think he'll score soon
Powell 7 great header but great save DWP 6 Brown 6 Clarke 6 Thompson 7 two great crosses at the end
Team effort 8

We lost today because of terrible finishing. I agree to a certain extent that we lost because of terrible finishing. I have said on a different thread that it says a lot that our defenders have scored more goals than our forwards. However, it’s like you can’t win sometimes. People calling for exciting attacking football, which is what they got tonight. We just weren’t clinical. I’d much rather this than holding on week in week out and scraping 0-0 draws. There’s more positives from tonight that negatives and the player ratings above I think are very harsh. You don’t have 28 shots and 12 on target and concede something like 4 shot and 1 on target and lose very often. It’s just one of those things. Another night it could have been 4-1 to us.

Baker 5...poor set pieces, casual at times Laurent 5...can do more
Gayle 5...needs to score. Delap 5...tad disappointed to be honest Fosu 6...need more end product Campbell 7...could have had a hat trick
Subs Clarke 5...strange sub Powell 7...remains our best player imo Brown 5...improved but lacks quality Thompson 7...Two great crosses DWP 5...needs loaning

I thought Wilmot was our best player to be honest. He wasn’t up against much but he absolutely dominated everything.
Bursik - 6 (not sure he did much wrong but nothing to do otherwise) Sterling - 6 Jagielka - 7 Wilmot - 8 Fox - 7 Baker - 7 Laurent - 7 Fosu - 7 Gayle - 6 Campbell - 7 Delap - 6
Powell - 7 Clarke - 5 Thompson - 7 DWP - 6 Brown - 5
