Bursik - Sublime save in 1st half, a couple of poor clearances and comedy, but generally with it and nice casually done shitehousing. 7 Sterling - Solid and looks a top player, defensively minded and has pace and power. 8 Wilmot - Another goal, unfussy performance and possibly formation helped limit his usual error prone self. 7 Jags - Class act. Steered the whole defence with calm authority and nice header for the goal. 9 Fox - Steady day today, some poor passing but improving. 6 Laurent - Could be the destroyer we’ve waited for. Some poor passes but pit in a shift. 7 Baker - Brilliant distribution and his pass to start the move for the 3rd goal was inspired. 7 Smallbone - very advanced role, better workrate and passing but not spectacular. 6 Fosu - A creative spark, everything he did was positive and Utd struggled to get him under control. Crucial goalline clearance. 9 Ty - Gradually getting back to his level, arrogance and control much better, workrate excellent for him. 8 Gayle - Selfless and efficient, led and linked well with Ty. 7
Delap - got a killer goal. Will this be the launch pad? 7 Clucas - Did his bit to keep pressure on defence. 7 Clarke - Like for like with Sterling 7 Thompson - Nice headgear.

Bursik 5 - still can’t kick, won’t command his area and puts us in trouble far too often Wilmot 7 - nice finish Jagielka 8 - great assist and nice header, solid and commanding Fox 6 - better than normal, perhaps 6.5 Sterling 7 - amazing what playing a player in his natural position can do Baker 7 - solid game, vocal Laurent 7 - improved, put himself about Smallbone 7 - much improved Fosu 8 - see Sterling, absolutely brilliant, an 8 feels slightly harsh Campbell 6 - shied out of a bit but needs games Gayle 7 - connected with play well
Clucas 6 - did enough Clarke 6 - love this guy Delap 7 - was worried when he missed his chance but delighted when he scored a very similar one, hopefully the spark needed Thompson n/a
I’ve sort of copied the club’s pre match line up but I think it was more 433 than 352

Bursik 7 - comfortable Sterling 8 - energetic and lively, promising Jagielka 8 - Solid Wilmot 8 - seems to be play better with Jagielka Fox 7 - one of his best games for Stoke, good interceptions and more controlled with passing and positioning Laurent 8 - broke down play well Smallbone 7 - better, still needs to win more 50-50 balls, some nice passes Baker 7 - controlled the midfield for the most part and played the ball around well Campbell 8 - lovely assist for the 3rd goal, always look to have more goals in the team when he is on the pitch. Gayle 7 - held up play well, linked up well, needs a goal Fosu 9 - thought he was excellent. MOTM, so lively and energetic and good with the ball, important contribution for the 3rd goal, that volley would have been goal of the season!
Delap 7 - great to see him pick up that goal, positioned himself well for it.
Everyone contributed.

Jags was class just proves a football brain always trumps pure pace. The difference since he’s been brought back has been startling.
MoM for me.
Fosu was a close second with Sterling not far behind (that lads as strong as a bull)

We won a match where we were the better team but on another day, if they’re shot where Bursik was well beaten hit the post and came out had hit the post and gone in we’d have been 2-1 down. It didn’t and we won, but we’ve beaten a Championship team where the standard isn’t great, not Man City in the cup. If I did half points I’d have given Fosu 8.5 and Campbell 6.5.

That’s just nonsense tbf mate. Bursik’s kicking was poor at times but he made a crucial save, reacted well to the ball hitting the post and made some really decisive handling decisions from corners in the 2nd half. As for Campbell it was probably his best game since his injury, he put himself about, could easily have had a goal with a good effort on goal and twice put a goal on a plate for Delap. Sounds all bit more like preconceived opinions vs what actually happened!

Sounds all bit more like preconceived opinions vs what actually happened! No, just my initial reaction to the game. Having watched the highlights in case I missed bits, I’ll concede that Campbell deserved a better score. Probably his best game since injury yes, though unfortunately that’s not saying a lot as he’s really struggled at times. Bursik’s kicking was poor nearly all the time, he caught balls that were crossed into his reach without him moving which I would expect, but there were times he could have come out to claim the ball (not off crosses but through balls) instead of forcing a defender to put the ball out for a throw. He made a good save in the first half but it was nothing special and as I said if it had gone in we’d all be going mad about positioning and timing. Admittedly my opinion of Bursik is that he’s not a very good keeper, maybe my expectations are a little too high and I understand he’s a young lad who can, and I really hope like we all do, will get much better. Keepers often mature well anyway.

There were spells where he let players past him and should’ve tracked, but he did track on a few occasions tbf, but I think he does sometimes go missing, but not a bad performance today.
