Seriously, I wonder what's the point with bridges and dental crowns??
The discussion came up today again at the dentist (new clinic, new dentist).
My neighbour has his whole mouth filled with them, but what's the point, I simply don't get it! Enlighten me, please.
As far as I understand they can put a dental crown on top of a tooth and combine a bridge over two teeth if it's possible. And how do they attach these parts? By glue! And what does it cost? A fortune! Just as much as it would cost to replace the teeth with a new one a fake, an implant.
So why bother with crowns and bridges in the meantime?? They might last for 1-2 years or 5-7 if you're lucky.
Surely lots here have bothered and installed crowns and bridges to be able to chew properly, but why? Why not an implant instead?

Dentists are like car mechanics. Once you go in they make sure you need to keep going back again and again

I went 25 years without going to the dentist then I got an abscess so had to apply for one. Went in and had it removed. They then offered a check up a few weeks later, no probs and I’ve never had a filling in my life. They tried to get me to go back for a scale and Polish, fuck that, they’re fine.
I will never forget how these twats and GP’s have been since Covid. My GP still won’t do a face to face. It’s fucking disgusting and they moan they’re underpaid. Absolute charlatans.

I’ve never had a filling in my life. A miracle! I've had fillings in most of my teeth. Have 2 removed with 3 soon to come, I guess. Brush them at least twice a day. Go each year to check them up. They are classed in the system as "better than good" considering being 55+. Are you 22? 🤠

The cost for having a tooth implant is huge here (or for a bridge and crown for that matter). Is it the same in England?
Up to 30.000 SEK (£2500) for 1 tooth.
One.

I’m lucky in that I have gappy teeth so shit doesn’t get stuck😉😉 I feel sorry for folk who are forever visiting the dentist. As I say I went for the first time in 20 odd years and all they wanted to do was a scale and polish. No fillings or anything

At 42 he had lost all of his teeth. He brushed them but was smoking a lot.

Sometimes aesthetic dentistry is a success, but looking at some stars and their teeth is a farse. It looks like they're wearing a dental protection like some of the boxers and hockey players do. Every teeth has the same length as well, and whiter than snow. Unnatural.

I have six crowns, all molars. Luckily no root canals were needed. My oldest crown is from 1996 but crowns should last 15+ years is what my dentist said. With my dental insurance, I think I averaged about $700-$800 out of pocket for each crown. Dentistry and dental technology is so much better now than even 10 years ago. I have checkups and cleanings every 6 months. Don't sleep on getting you teeth checked.

With my dental insurance, I think I averaged about $700-$800 out of pocket for each crown. Dentistry and dental technology is so much better now than even 10 years ago. I have checkups and cleanings every 6 months. Don't sleep on getting you teeth checked. I signed a "Dental Health Agreement" about 20 years ago with my dental clinic. It means I pay now 225 SEK (~£19) each month. X-rays, examinations, fillings, root canal jobs, polishing, dental care advices and dental hygienist visits are included. It gives me a discount of 10% on their toothbrushes, tooth picks etc. They call me automatically every other year. They don't to see me more regular than that since my teeth are above average standard considering my age. Not included are any aestethic dental care and dental implants, bridges or crowns. I've root canal jobs done in 6-8 tooth I guess. Putting a crown on such a tooth isn't always a priority since they're a bit weaker then. The teeth under the hard crown can collapse. Just read some info ... 😏 Prices. The prices for crowns seems to be about the same over there as here in Sweden. But with the societal dental insurance system we have (if the dental clinic have joined it and most of them have) a new dental IMPLANT would cost somewhere between 9500-16500 SEK (£800-1400) if you have it done at an ordinary dentist. We have the specialists as well who only work with implants. It can be a little bit more expensive, but not that much of a difference, they say. I have to find out more. It must be an heritage matter. If I get just a small hole in a tooth, it can go all the way to rotten in just a few weeks. It did once, after just 14 days they had to take it out. I expect to have 20 implants done in my lifetime. There is a disagreement among the dentists I've asked about a total cost for implants if you do let's say 4 or 6 implants at the same time. Some say you pay less and less for each implant if you have it done during the same time period, a year. But my ordinary dentist at the general People Dental Care (it's not private) says they want 16500 SEK (£1400) for each molar tooth. It means really a lot of money!!🤯 And you can pay monthwise only at the private dentist alternatives. Teeth in the front are cheaper to replace, down to 9500 SEK (£800) each. That's because they're visible some say. That's because you don't chew that much with them, some other more cynical people say.

I hope the SD (Sweden Democrats) and V (Left Party) suggestion, have dental care included in our health care system, go through.
It would mean I pay 100 SEK instead of 16500 SEK.
