I just can't see Southgate outfoxing a top international side in the knockout stages of a major tournament.

Has anyone on here actually seen Tomori play? I know Serie A is on BT Sports, must say I've watched the odd game as it's enjoyable and competitive but I wouldn't have actively been noticing Tomori. He played against us, when on loan at derby. He looked young athletic and quick. A bit like a young des walker. I think he was very young then , He's obviously more mature now and playing at a higher level.

We showed tenacity to get back in it. That Maguire penalty though. That was a real throwback to the days of thick England. Yeah, it was pretty awful and rightly given as a penalty. Sterling got away with a shirt tug a little earlier that should've been given too. Not very bright all round and the kind of brainlessness that could easily get you knocked out of the tournament. Maguire has been poor for some time at Man U, but he's playing in a mediocre side which often doesn't help. I don't mind him for England overall, I think he's done pretty well for us so far. We have to try to remember that we all had concerns about our defence going into the Euros and they did well, not conceding a goal until the Denmark game, so they can be decent. We just need them to be decent when it matters.

Pope was more of a worry than Maguire.

Pope was more of a worry than Maguire. True, but Pope is more easily replaceable. Southgate seems very reluctant to bring in Tomori which means that Maguire is pretty much a shoo in.

I just can't see Southgate outfoxing a top international side in the knockout stages of a major tournament. I mean he did do that last year like Poorest Germany side in ages like- and even then Muller missed a sitter. Swap the managers around in the Final and England would have won.
