we did look a lot fitter tonight than we have done. I bet he has had them running their bollox off. Which begs the question, what the fuck HAS been going on in training over the last few seasons. It’s not rocket science, the fitter you are,the better you will generally play. I can only imagine that our management team have been something of a soft touch. Most employees, even professionals, will carry out orders based on what's laid out in front of them. Why run 7.5k today, when MON only needs 5k, etc? I'd imagine it's a skill in itself, as a manager/coach, knowing where the line is between working players hard enough to get them super-fit, and pushing them too hard and risking injury. If you're training at 70% capacity, you're probably playing at 70%. Which isn't what's needed. I get the feeling Neil is going to get what he wants from this group, whether they fancy it or not?

Why do TP or Macari get bought up so often? The cult of manager is strange. Hopefully Neil can implement his own plan and it will be successful and then he will either leave because of success or will fail. And we all move on. The cult Yet again, going ridiculously over the top with your point of view. If you can't understand why a football fan (fanatic) would want to laud their clubs most successful managers I'd suggest you are following the wrong sport. I do think there is something a bit strange and unhealthy about the ammount of unquestioning faith many British football fans display in their respective club's manager and I'm not just talking Stoke. You only have to look at statements like "In Rafa we trust". I do think it has as much of a sort of cultist almost religious fevour as the behaviour of football fans could be described as tribal. It all looks quite odd at times, maybe I suppose if you're more of a spectator rooting for a particular team than a fanatic supporter.

To be fair, AN alluded to this in the pre-match: we have a squad full of players who have had heavy lay offs with us, or have been recruited because they are regaining fitness following injuries at parent clubs (eg Smallbone, Sterling). Recruiting those players is always a gamble, but I’d imagine they’d have been out of our league if they’d have stayed fit elsewhere.

Don't people make comparisons in all walks of life? That's why there are music, film etc. genres. Current players get compared to former players too.

I think AN's big idea is that we should train harder and try harder. I could have told him that but I'm glad to hear it. we did look a lot fitter tonight than we have done. I bet he has had them running their bollox off. That's it then back to running up mountains in Austria next pre-season and not fanning about in Ireland.

RE fitness, shows what a fucking charlatan O’Neill is. Robbing bastard. I'm not sure it's improved fitness although it could be but for me they couldn't be arsed to run for the buffoon.

No. But football is ruthless. Players and managers don’t stay for long so it seems daft to get attached doesn’t it? They’re there to be traded not loved. You don’t half chat some brown stuff. Of course the club is the one constant. Without players and managers, though, there would be nothing to watch in the first place. It’s only normal to have favourites and players we love to hate. You are the last one to lecture on this with your over the top opinions on players… But they are nothing. Here for 2/3 years and then go. It makes no sense to be how people are with them. They are all disposable.

It’s like a cult. Even when he was doing badly they wouldn’t have a bad word said about him. You have the rimmers who are the same with TP. The manager becomes the club. That’s totally irrational.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-live-qpr-neil-7590031Alex Neil press conferenceIt's of note that Alex Neil has turned up early to his press conferences. He was happy with the determination and willingess to work at Hull in comparison to the Reading game. He says he can't really comment too much on differences to games before he took over. Stoke are apparently running at an expected goal a game from set pieces at the moment, says Neil, who says he was looking at the figures this morning. Neil points to the fact Stoke didn't play last Saturday and that there's an international break afterwards. In other words, don't expect too many changes. It'll be a 'quick turnaround' for Josh Tymon after not playing much before Tuesday. He'll be assessed before Alex Neil picks his team at QPR. Neil makes the point about being cautious with Harry Souttar.

Talks a lot of sense, very honest. Not afraid to change the team around depending on who we are playing. Got a good feeling about this guy.

The interviewers need to up their game to ask him questions. You can tell he doesn't like the cliche questions.
I like his plain speaking. He knows his job.
