The theory that there is ‘quality’ in this squad waiting to burst forth has really been shown for what it is today. It’s similar to trying to get a Georgeous woman to sleep with you. The exterior appearance gets your heart racing. The anticipation and Adrenalin is palpable. You eventually win her over and get to undress her and carry her to the bedroom. The act itself is a massive let down, she lies stationary for 2 mins and you are done in 90 seconds after losing the ability to penetrate. That’s how I feel about Stoke 😂😂😂

Taking the positive out of that match, Neil will have learnt an awful lot about the squad he has inherited.
I expect a few more 'mares yet before he shapes things up, remember it took a few months for Hughes to turn a side that was struggling to stay in the Prem into a top half team. (Before he neglected to attend to sustaining the reasons he achieved that success.)
The thing that is different now we know Neil has done it in the past with Championship squads and whilst at 41 he may have lost his hair but not his ability and ambition.
We just have to be patient while he works it out. I gave Rowett, Jones and MON months before deciding they were not up to the job. I will give Neil the World Cup break, January window and some more time to turn things round.
PS I hope I never see Clucas in a Stoke shirt again!

Fosu was as toss as the rest, maybe only Clucas, Bonham and Fox worse than him Strange list given Clucas wasn't even the worst of the midfielders. You must have said that 20 times since the game... Has your account been hacked by Clucas himself?

I don't particularly rate Clucas myself but the people seem to have blinded themselves to anything good he does, everyone started with a clean slate for me once Neil came in and I think he's done more to keep his place than anyone else in that midfield.

That 2014-2016 team was personally the best Stoke side I have ever seen (I'm 33). I don't know if he particularly did anything differently in the transfer market over time in terms of the type of player he was bringing in, I just think he was quite fortunate that most of his earlier signings paid off for him. Let's not forget the likes of Arnautovic and Odemwingie could have easily gone the same way as your Jeses and Imbulas. For me the main thing he got wrong was when the Pulis lot started to leave (Huth, Walters, Whelan etc.), he didn't replace them with similar personalities, so we ultimately lacked that hard work, sheer grit and desire aspect that had served us so well prior and we ended up going the same way as his QPR side with a load of overpaid prima donnas.

The reality is we basically gave 2 goals away. They were complete gifts and apart from that they were hardly any threat. However poor we performed we really could have won that game or at least drawn it and I wonder how different the reaction would have been. Apart from that stupid mix up at the back that led to their first we didn't even look like the away side in the first half. Massive over reaction. The half time stats on the BBC were quite amazing for an away side. I don't remember them exactly but it was something like in favour of us 62% possession, 6 corners to 1, 9 shots to 3, 18 crosses to 5. I thought we must have battered them in to next week! We had equalised on the stroke of half time and it would only be a question of time in the 2nd half before we slotted home the winner! I didn't see the game and thought everyone would be pleased. Then I checked on here and World War 3 had broken out !! 😆

You only have to look at suggested line ups, player ratings to see which posters have an irrational agenda against which players, systems and approach to the game. I'm sure a lot of them think the players just go out there and play however they want irrespective of instructions or game plans.

Hughes was always at pains to point out that he had inherited from Pulis a group of players who 'knew how to win Premier League games'. I always thought by that he had in mind people like Walters and Whelan and Shawcross and Begovic and Huth. He added in the likes of Arnautovic, gave the team licence to play and sprinkled a little fairy dust on the top and for a short while we were flying, dare I say it even fashionable! One day you're right there, then something slips...
