It’s absolutely fine when a player earns and deserves it, Allen did neither. I still haven’t forgiven him for cupping his ears in front of the boothen that time when he scored when we were rock bottom of the league!! I'm sure no one on here ever got frustrated and either literally or figuratively flipped the bird to someone who was not deserving. It was a crap thing to do but I'm sure it was all the frustration of being bottom coming out.

Had about 10 good games out of 210. Played a key part in our fall from grace and then fucked off as soon as the big time money wasn't on the table. No applause from me.

Was talking to John Hartson at Stoke Station when Joe had only been at Stoke a few months and his old Welsh team mate said Joe was loving his time with us

I was pleased for him he was one player who stayed and tried to help us unlike some of the other complete and utter wankers. The 57 grand a week helped

There are so many people that know the reasons he stayed none of which know its true. He was one of a dozen or more who were on big contracts not massive but decent money and yet the only one that stayed and tried gets criticism for it. I don't remember Ryan getting shit for his contact when he was sat in the stands.

I was the opposite side but would have definitely given him a round of applause if I was in that corner

They all follow the money and rightly so. 10 to 15 years to set themselves and their families up for life. If Torquay offered them a payrise they'd fuck off there.

You really can't compare Joe Allen to Nick Powell mate. They're in a different universe quality wise. Yes but the point is we've been nothing but poor since Powell joined so you could just as easily blame him for that as people blaming Allen for our demise cos it coincided with his signing. Allen never gave anything but his best even if it didn't fit our style. Not his fault he was signed and when others downed tools he tried to fill all the gaps resulting in the headless chicken act. But noone would blame Powell anyway because anyone who enjoys decent football can see we have one of the best players in the league. Joe Allen isn't that. I'm not even really knocking him, and he did give his all, just his all wasnt good enough most of the time. It's just the truth. I think some people don't wanna knock him because he's a nice fella, which I think he is too, and he worked hard, great, but it didn't get us promotion did it? He wasn't a strong leader and never should have been made captain in my opinion. Baker for example, looks like a captain, Joe, never. Just my opinion of course. Edit. Credit where it's due, I thought he had a decent game last night. He always did against ex teams.
