Mixed start sound about right? It really felt like he's got a grip from the off, the subs were strong, we kept going right to the end and got a reward for it but... this is not a well balanced squad Alex has inherited, no point pretending, and it's a big big job getting performances up to a standard. Positive tho on balance for me

Made the subs at the right time (when did that last happen) He's got some work to do on fitness and formation. But we got something out of a game we would have lost in the past.

Hard to judge apart from the subs that he got right.
It didnt feel any different from a MON game, but we were actually playing 4-3-3. Midfield needs serious attention and I reckon AN has to make changes for the next game, we were totally overrun

For the first five minutes it was rip roaring Potters then 40 minutes of MON ball. Second half was better but we still are far too slow in our build up and sloppy with our passing. Good subs at the right time. Can't blame AN for any of the faults on display but he's got his work cut out in changing the mindset of most of our team.
7 For the subs.

7 from me. He got the subs right and will be pleased that it was a sub who scored the equaliser.
Personally, I think there was a case for bringing on the subs 10 or 15 minutes earlier - but I'll let him off as it was his first game.
I'd love to see a PROPER defensive midfielder with pace, a great tackle and a killer pass in the squad.

7 from me. Can't work miracles overnight.
We have to develop a pattern of play. People knowing where to go and what to do. That's what he wants too, but we're a way off. Still, keep in mid-table as we learn is not the end of the world. On to Reading!

6/10
First quarter of the game we were really good despite conceding an early goal. Quick out of the blocks and forced alot of mistakes on the opposition with the high press. I thought we pressed really well and probably deserved a goal ourselves, we were defo unfortunate to be a goal down.
Then for the next half of the game it was all Swansea. Think they passed through us with ease and were crisp in attack. They lacked composure to pick out the final pass and overplayed it a bit rather than taking their chances. A better team would have punished us. Felt they targeted our full backs alot too and had good success.
Thought Clucas was anonymous most of the game and was surprised to see him kept on the pitch. We were over ran in midfield and it was only when he finally brought Smallbone on that it came together. Felt Smallbone should have started or at least came into the game alot sooner.
This is a Swansea side with 1 win in 13 competitive games. We should be beating these at home. 2 points dropped.

Used his subs well but I don’t like seeing Brown so far back helping the full back all the time. Taylor looked shot to me…the lad needs a rest…it’s probably more mental than physical. Finally Delap…I’m really not sure what to make of him to be honest…I’m desperate for him to score but he seems to be struggling in this league…looks like he is knackered on 70 minutes. Overall an ok performance but AN has a huge job on his hands…we are desperate for Powell, Soutar and Tyson to return.

7.5
Only a draw but it overall it felt better. Bucket loads to do in midfield and a mindset change of passing it across the sodding back of defence. Also, gaping hole in midfield. All inherited problems so no criticism of that.
Actually, I'll lose the half mark for starting with Sam 'Placeholder' Clucas who drives me f**king nuts. So, 7 overall.

7. Can’t understand Thompson on the right and forwards didn’t work as a blend. Good subs but 10 minutes too late.

I think you're being very generous as it's his first game. In honesty, it was very O'Neil esque, apart from making earlier subs which brought us back into the game. Bonham kept us in the game and I was disappointed that we didn't get the new manager bounce. A hell of a lot of work is required to get this lot firing. So I'll give it a 5. Good luck Alex, you have a hell of a job on your hands.

7.
Would have given him half a point extra had he hauled Clucas off at half time. Bar one season, he has been utter dog shit. Completely anonymous most of the time and watches the game pass him by. If anyone can tell me what he effectively contributes over 90 minutes, then please do. The sooner Neil realises this the better.
Can't wait for Laurent to be back. Bar Baker, we look as weak as piss in midfield.

Starts with a 7, but after hearing his post match interview he’s upped to a 9. Straight away he’s identified fitness by referring to leggy players which he wouldn’t expect. Always thought our players were markedly unfit compared to other teams. If he’s picking this out so soon and addresses it, I have confidence he will cut through the rest of the crap in the shit show that is Stoke. Go on Alex, take no prisoners.

No one will give him less that 7, which is fair enough because everyone wants to believe in a bright be new dawn.
But there is no way on gods earth MON would have been given 7 or more for stealing a 90th minute draw at home to a team who have won 1 of their last 13.
I simply say that in the interests of balance and fairness.

Of position for me and an attempt at too much change in playing style led to confusion 5 for me not the best first game.but that’s all it is

* mmmm. After the first few minutes we reverted to type, sideways, sideways, backwards, hoof. We were pressed so effectively our young, promising centre back needed substituting and several others could have been replaced too. A last minute equaliser papers over the same cracks… Hopefully the manager sees the need for pass and move . he seemed to care and made changes, but in reality, we were second best in terms of craft to a poor, but well organised and well set up and drilled team. Having said that the 90th mental was great. Over to you Alex. Ps I will go with 5

6.5.
I think he was right now to make subs after a win, even if it wasn’t his team. Players who win should keep their spot.
Now he has a chance to change it around.
There’s a lot of injuries in important spots (full backs), which make it a little hard, but I’m curious to see what will happen next.

First game in charge and we displayed many of the same worrying traits but his subs worked and were given enough time to make an impact. Dropped him a point for keeping clucas on, but Neil will learn about him, hopefully.

I simply say that in the interests of balance and fairness. It isn't 'rate the result' though, it's rate the managerial performance. For me, he did nothing I wouldn't have done in his position. First game in charge, he's always going to pick the same line-up he watched win at Blackburn. He reacted early to Taylor having a mare and hooked him, and the other subs were spot on as well. The team had so much more intensity in that first 40 minutes than they showed under MON and got the ball forward much quicker, which was what we've been crying out for. The only tactical negatives were that Clucas and Thompson were playing too high and too wide- the midfield was wide open as a result. Wilmot was also bombing up the right a bit too much for my liking, which exposed us a bit too.
