It looked like a back 3, with wilmot and brown as wingbacks!?

I think I'd prefer 4-2-3-1. We've been playing with Baker as the lone sitter and he doesn't get in enough space to let us play through the middle. I think I'd like two CMs buzzing around to offer options soemtimes. Baker seems to be doing too much work. I like when he's freed up. We miss Laurent, but kilkenny and smallbone in the middle could help. Clucas and Thompson mentioned shouldn't happen again this season. Smallbone and Kilkenny seems lightweight, no? Maybe they scrap more than I'd give them credit for. I'm fine with Thompson when he's made to sit, and wasn't Sparrow a CM? Think CM needs work but Baker needs more free rein.

If Brown was a left wing back, please never let it happen again.

The 3 in midfield needs to be Baker, Kilkenny and Smallbone. Brown on right, Gayle on left. Need a right back so Wilmot can move into middle. I agree play Brown on the right. His left foot was terrible today, and he hasn't got the guile to cut inside. But stick Campbell on the left, surely. He's actually left footed. IF he gets back to his best he can win a lot of games for us. Campbell is naturally left footed but he has worked on his right and can now shoot and pass well with both feet. I do agree that Brown doesn't look his best on the left. So, when Brown and Campbell are both in a front 3, logically Campbell should be on the left and Brown on the right - although they should both have the license to roam. I'd stick with Delap at cf - he's still raw but he does work the defenders even if, at present, he isn't working the keeper too often. Which two of Campbell, Gayle and Brown should start the next game, I haven't decided but I should imagine Gayle is probably knackered with all the game time he is getting after such a long time out of first team foorball. So, maybe Gayle should have a rest and start the next game on the subs bench.

I thought Taylor was poor tonight giving the ball away. Flint was would and a rock tonight. I like him Taylor looked brilliant early on but it was the right call to hook him IMO.Hope it doesn't hurt his confidence, I'm convinced there's a top player in there but young lads can need careful tending. Taylor had an absolute nightmare right from the start. He's a young lad finding his feet so I won't criticise him too much but he's not ready for this league yet.

I can see his potential but wow its like he was hallucinating today the difference was so evident from previous few matches.

You don't think so obviously, fair enough. watching the ball bounce off Jacob Brown compared to the guile and quality, not to mention pace whilst keeping the ball under control, of Tyrese is chalk and cheese. These past few sub appearances have proved he is making an effort. Deserves a start, and we will all benefit. 👍 Keen to see him banging them in for fun again, but not sure I agree he has earned anything at this time. Happy to be proved wrong though. Can’t fault him. Long may it continue!

Taylor had his worst game for us, but he has been our best defender in most of the other games. He looked so nervous tonight, but in the other games he has looked very confident.

I didn’t like the midfield at all. Thompson was fairly anonymous and Clucas wasn’t much better either. Baker is wasted at the base of the midfield and we’re missing Laurent.
I’d love it if we manage to sign a proper DM whether that’s McCarthy or someone of his ilk.

Taylor was always due a bad game considering how well he’s started. Classic Oatcake sticking the boot into a young lad.

12 corners today which led to 0 shots on target… surely this needs to be addressed.

Wilmot or bonham motm could of been any of them need better full backs and and a new dm destroyer in this formation but backing neil to get them fit properly might take few months but we will get there alex Neil's barmy army

My take on it was...
We dropped off, after starting with intensity. The intense pressing game Neil wants, we saw for the first few minutes. But the players aren't fit enough for it. Which is why the first time Swansea broke the press, our defence was exposed, because we didnt have the legs to get back in shape quick enough. And which is why we dropped off after that. Gonna be a while before Neil gets the squad conditioned enough to be able to play the way he wants them to play.

Think we agree he had a poor one today. Pre-season he was the best of a bad bunch. Against zBlackpool, given time and space, he looked composed. Tonight, when effectively pressed, he looked a liability and totally fried by the time he was hooked. Hopefully Alex Neil can ensure he is nurtured. Tonight was painful to watch him exposed

The midfield were a big problem there, Thompson and Clucas shouldn't be in the same midfield. At the back we looked so slow. Really worrying The 3 in midfield needs to be Baker, Kilkenny and Smallbone. Brown on right, Gayle on left. Need a right back so Wilmot can move into middle. Brown on the right? Fosu to me looks our most likely creative player in the 'right half'position. Brings the ball out with purpose. We actually look like we're putting an attack together when he's on the ball. Can't make up my mind about Brown at all, though he doubtless helps the press if that's the plan.

I don't think the team has been fit enough for the last few years, Brown excepted. Hence we were unable to play with much energy. I thought we had fitness coaches etc. etc.
