Maybe a 433 if Delap signs:

I mean at the minute I want to see Wilmot at right back and Fox at left back. That’s how bad the shambles of a back 3 under MON has been. Ditto his recruitment. Bursik Wilmot Taylor Jagielka Fox Baker Kilkenny Campbell DWP Fosu Brown Agreed but Thompson for DWP and Baker further forward or Gayle deeper with Kilkenny missing out

I have a feeling that we may get a performance worth watching on Saturday. Or having been booed off some might just say “Why Bother” I hope not .

This for me -
Bursik Wilmot Taylor Jagielka Fox Kilkenny, Thompson Baker Campbell, Gayle, Brown
Kilkenny and Thompson protect a suspect back 4 (nothing we can do about it being suspect as we dont have the personnel) but allow Baker to push forward / play the killer pass.
Nice and compact and makes the best of what we have

Comes to something when I'm nodding along at the prospect of Wilmot and Fox starting in a back 4. I'd be tempted. Fosu didn't look wing-backy, let alone full-backy I can’t think of another way of doing it and it is crap but that tonight was up there with the worst of worst over the last 4 years. We can’t do it again. Fosu clearly wanted to attack. He’s quick and wanted the ball into space or on the run. Get him up the pitch. It’s a shambolic situation he’s got us in. Yes he did want to bomb forward. They certainly kept getting in down his right hand side. Keep him up the pitch and sort a right sided defender.

Sunderland play a high press which immediately spells trouble for us. Alex Neil tends to set up to play man-to-man so we are relying on winning individual battles.
They are without Dan Neil following his red, who came in for Evans to play the deep-lying midfield role. Hopefully they are threadbare there…

Nice and tired. Another away game for them in quick succession. Ripe for the taking.

Now Delap has signed, and was on the bench for Man City just a week ago, I would expect him to feature, if not start. Think Jags will be rested and Flint brought in. Otherwise team picks itself given the injuries other than up front where there some options.

Surely can’t start Clucas? I'd have him at wing back

I feel if he plays with wing backs while having no wing backs then he could get some abuse as he comes out.

Bursik Wilmot Taylor Jagielka Fox Kilkenny Thompson Baker
Brown Delap Gayle Campbell and DWP on ~ 70 mins. The defence is scary Ideally we’d have two new full backs and be able to choose two from Taylor / Wilmot / Souttar for the two CBs, for now though we have to make do with the squad he has built so it’s makeshift full backs.

Was Mccarron brought in as winger or wing back and is he injured? For me if Lauren is out for 6-8 weeks we should be playing Thompson in that deep midfield role not pushing him into a position which is not his best.

I will be surprised to se him choose anything else than 5 at the back, so I hope this will be the team because of the injuries: ...........................Bursik............................ .............Taylor.........Jags........Wilmot............... Fosu...............Killkenny....Baker..............Thompson ..........................Smallbone.......................... .......................Gayle....Delap........................ Smallbone really needs to do better than yesterday! Clucas simply isn't good enough!

I think he’ll go
Bursik Taylor Flint Wilmot Fosu Kilkenny Baker Thompson Smallbone Brown Campbell
The Kilkenny/Baker partnership will work well but we’ll still be knackered with the wing-backs.

If after hearing about Tymon he still goes 532 then it’s time to pack up. I’m hopeful he sees sense and goes rogue Bursic Fose Taylor Wilmott Fox Kilkenny Baker Smallbone Campbell Gayle Brown Whos crossing the ball for 3 strikers? Are you serious, that smacks of kick and chase

Don’t remind me we’ve got another game I’m not over last nights shambles yet. Anything’s possible! He’ll drop Probably drop Cluless and move Thompson centre mid and put Fox LWB we’ll lose 10-0 and he’ll come out after and say how well we played. Delap will come on with 5 seconds left.

He just had to find a 6 week system without wing backs that suits the available players either 442 or 433 persons;ly I’d go Keeper Wilmot. Taylor jags. Fox Kilkenny. Thomson Baker brown. Delap. Gayle this. Our best hope is that front 3. A match for anyone. Play it long and let Delap be the target.

What would our strongest team be?
Bursik
Clarke Willmot Souttar Taylor Tymon
Baker Laurent Powell
Delap Gayle
Would that side be a play off contender?

Clarke not really a wing back and to not have a left footer in a back three is poor.
