After yesterday we may use this song a bit more so my plea is can we get the words right please? It’s When Stoke go down we hit the town get pissed on the ale
Not When Stoke go down we all go down …..
I’m sure you will agree the first and original words make much more sense Thanks all

So very grateful for that. However, isn't it possible that at the point of relegation, large numbers of fans want to perform oral sex - perhaps as therapy for the inevitable misery attendant on the aforementioned descent to a lower tier? It's either that, or the beach party at Brighton back in the early 90s.

It's surprising to me when you speak to other Stokies how few read the Oatcake.

It’s never been “Hit the town” Has annoying has the song has now become because its probably 1 of 3 songs we’ve got it’s sung with the correct words.
Birmingham sing similar. I believe they sang it before us.

I like this song very much, self depreciating humour is the way to go when times are hard.

I was there at Bolton season 1977/78 at the end of the match when we were all kept in by the police. And someone near the front kept singing that song for the first time over and over until we all learned the words and it was definitely we'll all go down, not hit the town.

I was also at Bolton that day when Ossie from Longton got on the barriers to teach the fans a song. It wasn't anything like the Stoke go down song. It was. Isn't it nice to sing and to fight when City are in your division. We beat em at home,we beat em away. We kill any bastards that get in our way.

Or......... Better still, don't sing it at all, it's a wank song!!!
Saying that, we really do need to add a few new songs to the repertoire, that's why the atmosphere is so flat, we don't have any songs, and the only few we do have, have now turned stale!!!

If memory serves, there were coins being "exchanged" across the divide of the big open end. I well remember the song, although I don't associate it particularly with that day. For younger viewers, it was to the tune of "Messing About on the River". Which curiously was written by none other than...Tony Hatch (I only know that because I asked Mr Google).

People can remember a song with clarity from 45 years ago. Well fuck me.
I can't remember what I had for my tea last night.

Agree, it's a shit song. Even worse when we've been down for 4 seasons.
Up there with 'We never win at home and we never win away' and 'How sjit must you be..' as lousy songs.

Ad someone who was there originally when the song came out, the lyrics we sung then are the same as the lyrics that are sung now.

Struggling with references to the song being sung in 1978 as vale were 4th division and we definitely didnt get relegated that season- as far as I’m aware the song was around the Alan ball disaster time and as I’m a massive pedant if the words being sung today were correct I definitely would have noticed as I also ‘was there’ at Brighton away etc etc Anyway as others have said it a song that hasn’t aged well anyway and after a few years not going away I was struck yesterday at how poor the repertoire is these days possibly mirroring the defending!

First time I heard this song was pre season at Newcastle Town in 1990. It was definitely “we all go down”.
