Raymond Briggs the creator of the renowned Snowman sadly passed away yesterday. Purely by accident I was Channel hopping on the TV to avoid the Sunack prime minister broadcast and came across a tribute to him on BBC2. It was deeply moving and extremely interesting. I strongly recommend it to anyone who may be interested. I am sure it will be available on I Player.

RIP
Didn't he write one about an old couple and a nuclear attack too? Like a fluffier version of Threads?

Loved that cartoon, I used to cry when the snowman melted at the end . To be fair though I was only 25.

I had never seen it before. Having watched the program before it made so much sense and again deeply moving. A piece of social history that modern day students studying the 20th century should watch to learn how world events affect ordinary people. I spent most of the film trying to identify Ethel’s voice ! Got it in the credits 😀

I still love The Snowman to this day. I remember my mum going to great difficulties to get the book for me when I was a kid, as it wasn't available anywhere. There might only be four perfect animations in history: The Snowman, The Wrong Trousers, Spirited Away, Toy Story. Thanks for mentioning the tribute - I've found it: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bwdvth/raymond-briggs-snowmen-bogeymen-and-milkmenBased on this thread, I should check out more Raymond Briggs.

When The Wind Blows, simply brilliant Possibly his finest work. But, he had plenty of other good stuff too - so a special shout out for Fungus the Bogeyman, which was my first introduction to his work. RIP.
