The goal that was 3 yards offside? So we still lost 2-1 then, yeah? We lost 3-1 mate

The goal that was 3 yards offside? What’s that got to do with the price of fish? We'd just had a goal disallowed for offside that looked on. Very opinionated for someone who didn't watch the game.

So we still lost 2-1 then, yeah? We lost 3-1 mate Yeah, and you're trying to justify it by saying that ONE of their goals were offside so I was right in saying we STILL would have lost 2-1 yeah?

Legend or not, he's talking shit. We probably didn't deserve to lose on the balance of play, but we weren't unlucky. The first goal was the result of a goalkeeper who has proven time and again that he isn't capable of making basic saves and isn't ready/simply isn't good enough and will never be ready, for this level. And the second goal was the result of insisting on a wing back system without having the necessary quality wing backs to play the system. And not having the pragmatism or the necessary squad depth to revert to 4 at the back when a player gets injured. Which is what's happened with Clarke and instead of being sensible and playing 4 at the back, he kept the same system and played a young central midfielder who has absolutely no experience out of position at right back. Who subsequently made an absolute howler for their killer second goal. Both of those problems were predictable and are the fault of the manager. He's played there for six months, so you're wrong there. In fact I think Sparrow was playing a traditional rb towards the end of the season before last. You could say the manager is inept for failing to spot that the experiment has failed to work out, but lots of young players are adaptable and end up playing somewhere other than where they played in school.

It really only requires being able to count to three. The whole point was that Smith said that Huddersfield wouldn’t even try and score again literally at the moment they did. That sort of suggests that they, you know, might have a go at scoring again after all. Unless they got lost on the way to their own corner flag…

"that will have knocked the stuffing out of the Stoke fans," just as a massive Delilah was ringing out! He immediately followed that one up with a real pearl of wisdom ... "we need to make sure we don't lose". 🤦♂️

If memory serves me right it is 50 years today since we beat Palace on the opening day of the season with Denis playing. I also seem to remember that Banksie was booked for wearing a shirt that didn’t comply with the regulations. It was a green shirt but had a brown vertical panel down the front.
Am I going mad or did this actually happen?

I can't listen to the commentary when they are on, i have to turn it off or watch the other clubs stream instead.

I also think Banksie was booked in our next home game as well. This time he was judged to have overstepped the edge of the box when kicking the ball from his hands. He was booked for dissent.
Two referees wanting to be able to tell their mates that they’d booked the footballer of the year.
I think this second game was against Sheff Utd. And as this is a thread about Denis, I’m pretty sure he scored in both games.
It’s an amazing thing the human memory!

Great player, gave everything on the pitch. 492 appearances for Stoke over a 1000 games as a manager and one of the 1972 league Cup winning team, I know because Nige told me every time. Nige probably realises that those of us who remember the League Cup win are of a certain age and therefore we need to be constantly reminded of things in view of our poor memories affected by senility.

If they do it coming for a ball say, is a serious offence and a booking at least. If the do it whilst taking a goal kick is totally ignored.

Denis "dont criticise the club" Smith
all he does is defend the indefensible with the club too protect his own interests with them, shouldn't be anywhere near the airwaves, a few years back during relegation from the prem when the club was being hammered on p and g most match he had a screaming match with a caller who dared to criticise the club, it ended when the caller quite rightly called him an old fool, he didnt come back on for quite a while and the Saturday call in was much better
nice guy probably
stoke hero yes
arse licking over the club yes, get rid put him out to pasture, more Lawrence please!

If a player won a throw in, picked the ball up and laid on it for 10 seconds he'd be booked. If any player jumped up with a leading leg he'd be booked. If a player took as long with a set piece as a keeper does with a goal kick, again, he'd be booked. If a player takes ball and man they are booked. Keepers do it and it's not even a foul.

Was a keeper last season in the Prem , completely missed the ball and cleaned a player out and nothing given. Saw one last week, keeper missed a punch and caught the attacker in the face. Nothing given. That Pickford challenge on VVD was as high and dangerous as you'll see. ....again nothing. Touch a keeper though

Touch a keeper though Perhaps you should tell the Vale keeper Lucas Covolan that keepers can get away with anything on a football pitch. He has now been sent off four times in just over 12 months. Mind you. It might be his association with the great unwashed that upsets the referees.
