In another bizarre business decision by the club we are now doing paid for programmes again according to an email I’ve just had… Another change from the new CEO?

Pretty sure that this was not a club decision TBH.

There’s a lot more value to be had from adverts in a paid publication than one that’s handed out for free. The Advertiser was generally used in litter trays, whereas if you’re paying for something then you’re more likely to read it and the ads in it will capture more interest. I suspect that’s the driver behind it, not to make a few quid on a matchday, but to make the advertising space more appealing and therefore make it easier to sell.

Pretty sure that this was not a club decision TBH. Who’s decision was it then? It's the Club's official matchday programme, so it must have been the club's decision, even if it was driven by pressure from commercial partners. In the FSA we have been collating information on what clubs are doing about programmes and how many have abandoned the traditional paid-for programme. I haven't seen reference to any other club going to a free programme and then changing back again.

So are we saying that we dont get a say in what is being sold in our stadium? The club surely will have given the final go ahead for programmes to be in sale again in the ground. Absolutely unnecessary to charge for these

Their site says "EFL Championship clubs such as Birmingham City, Hull City, Middlesbrough, Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Stoke City, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic also trust us to handle their revered matchday titles, as do 10 other clubs from across the pyramid and Women’s Super League.
Sounds suspiciously like we got lobbed a few quid to hand over to this lot so they leverage a bigger advertising footprint and we get none of the hassle.

I detest the way they force people to buy them. I know, I walked by the Brit the other day and I was nearly gunned down by the CEO for not carrying a latest copy. Just be careful out there.

Business in 'wanting to make money' scandal! On the very day they callously refused to pay testimonial money to the supporters who didn't catch a train. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

The more money going into the club the better. I can't believe e this attitude. We've now got programmes for the haves and nothing for the have nots. The club is operating some kind of supporter apartheid and we're just standing by and letting it happen. This isn't just a fight for free programmes that no one could be arsed to pick up. It will define the supporting experience of our children and our grandchildren.

The email was for a season's subscription - I am fairly certain they did it last year too. It didn't say you had to pay on match day, so maybe it will continue to be free. League games only I am afraid - friendly FA Cup and League Cup not covered.

I’m confused as to how this wouldn’t be the clubs decision? The position was explained a bit in the Q & A. It was said that the Company who produced the free programmes have now withdrawn from that contract and so the Club couldn't continue with them. It is clear that the Club's preference would have been to continue with the freebies. This is obviously what Angela meant above when she said it wasn't the Club's decision. But it does beg the question of how much effort, if any, the Club put into finding other suppliers who would have offered that service, which wasn't said at the Q & A.

Wasn't really my point. I'm just saying that the club have clearly decided to wash their hands, as Malcolm says, a bit more application by the club might have come up with an alternative. Let's hope the new man takes a different view next season. Although reading between the lines of his complimentary remarks on Thursday I think his focus is on the matchday and hospitality which he feels can be his first big wins.

How many people picked one up and read the free one every week? I rarely bought a programme but the free one seemed incredibly boring and apart from picking one up on sunny days to shield my eyes I stopped getting one as it just went straight in the recycling bin. I've got better things to read.
