If the club are trying to put the rest of the Championship off the scent of our promotion credentials the last week has been a roaring success because any scouts from our opposition over the first few weeks will be scratching their heads and wondering what league we’re preparing for.
I have been on this roller-coaster ride along time so I understand that a poor pre-season doesn’t mean the worse but the performances have been dreadful the lack of creativity is concerning and given our inability to score from set pieces makes you wonder where the goals are coming from.
People are rightly asking where is MON he seems to be evading or avoiding giving his opinions on what is happening during this build up to another season, DH described that non-event last night as a good workout, for who Bristol Rovers I understand in public he couldn’t say that was atrocious and unless things improve fast we are in for a long hard season, we desperately need quality reinforcements and the chances of us getting them are only dependent on whoever is left when the teams with financial wiggle room are done. The only hope is MON is so busy persuading new recruits that Stoke is the right place for them or he’s simply keeping a low profile because it’s really hard to defend what is transpiring in front of the supporters eyes. The club are responsible for this situation by papering over the cracks after relegation they promised a top down solution we got the usual change the manager and hope for the best solution and now we are stuck in the loop of unable to spend money despite having money available because the ridiculous rules say we can’t. the foreign market virtually closed off to us with the managers reluctance to use it and the pool being extremely limited due to Brexit immigration rules.
So what options are left many will say change the manager, unlikely at this late stage at least until October id we make a poor start. So let’s hope it’s a cunning plan and the real Stoke City will burst forth from the coma that we seem to be slipping into come Millwall and beyond.
Still a couple of exciting additions and a good performance at Hearts and maybe we will be smiling again and looking forward to a half decent season we can but hope.

I think the problem is that “a half decent season” is probably the height of our ambition 😡

It's so depressing. First season in The Championship they canvassed journalists from each team, I swear around 22 of the 24 predicted we'd go straight back up.
And here we are now years later clutching at having a ' half decent season '.
Makes you weep

The silence from the owners is deafening. Are they happy at what we can all see it just seems to be a complete mess or do they just think this is nothing to worry about & Mon will make sure we are ok. I think the answer to that will become clear after the first 5 fixtures which on our present showings will see us rooted to the foot of the table. Wake up Stoke we have been here before quite recently.

Tipping us to go back up in the first season, the same way they tipped us to go down in our first season in the PL. Meanwhile teams like Luton and Huddersfield, proper teams rather than teams full of individuals make the playoffs. I don't have high hopes for this season but MoN is doing exactly what's required. Restoring wage parity and building a proper team ethos on a shoe string budget. We all want instant success but whether you like it or not the fact is we need to become self-sufficient to comply with FFP rules and you can't do that overnight

O'Neill is draining enthusiasm with his blinkered attitude and negative football and the crowd is reducing in direct proportion to his poor style of play. I applaud your optimism but ..

They’ve done a good job - I have to admit the club have me fooled to as well as our rivals - as it stands I’m convinced we are rubbish.

Success overnight? I simply want decent, front foot football. That's success for me. I have a 13 year old football bonkers lad who is bored silly going to watch Stoke, and so am I

Agreed. who knows we might sign a couple of top players, MON might appear this pre season and we might suddenly play great football against Millwall. However the signs look iffy, a weird pre season so far. Has the makings of a shit show

These players don't have the talent to pretend to play badly to deceive anyone, they don't even have the talent to even play half decent.

I'd rather have a half decent season where we lose more than we win but at least give it a go.
I wonder what bonus MON is on to keep us up - from the way we play it must be quite sizeable.
My lad is the same as Bunny's 13 year old - would rather go and watch West Didsbury in NW Counties than the frustration of watching Stoke. I've told him he can't obviously.

Winning is everything to me, but when you don't, and you don't even really attack, then it's simply crap. Laddo enjoys going Leek Town more, and I don't blame him
