The circuit returns to magnificent home of golf and has the promise of a few interesting days. Links golf is often about how to deal with varying weather conditions. This year may be more about the heat and the ground conditions. The bookmakers are offering some amazing each way odds, but I feel the field is wide open . Anybody placing a bet ?
Really looking foreword to it. 😀😏🏌🏽♂️

Iv`e backed Fleetwood each way for a bit of interest, got 25-1 e/w to finish top 14 not bad. Agree, this could be anyone's open. I think it will all come down to putting. I have been lucky enough to play the Old course, and it`s not that difficult even for a hacker like me.

A lot of very tight lies on the fairways. The way these guys can play lob wedge shots off them is very impressive and beyond my capability.🏌🏽♂️🤔

So, these people are saying that they signed lease contracts with a very clear clause in them about vacating the property at a certain time, and now that the property owners are exercising those rights, that they were fully aware of at the time of signing, they think it’s wrong. Well - oh fucking dear - welcome to the real world

I have been lucky enough to play it. My main memories of the hazards are pot bunkers (not usually a problem for the pros) and the 17th. Very enjoyable experience though.

On sky Sports yesterday the commentator made a remark re a young up and coming pro who had qualified to play and was staying in “student accommodation”, as he had been quoted a min price of £14,000 per week to rent a house !!!

Loads of greedy bastards here tried to milk it in 2018 as they'd coined it in previously but Air BnB saturated the market a bit more so deflated the prices - my heart bled. www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/angus-mearns/687221/late-surge-in-open-property-rentals-in-carnoustie/

Is this his year? He has been playing well on the lead up to this week. Looking at the undulations on these greens I am sure that most club golfers would probably average 3/4 puts per green. 🤪

Well - oh fucking dear - welcome to the real world It's almost as if some of these students went to St Andrews not realising there would be a golf tournament there every 5 years. Back in my day you did a bit of research on the place before you applied to a University.

Must be a great experience in person but on TV the course isn't that interesting to watch other than the history aspect?

I would opine that at a time when golf should be looking at itself with the LIV stuff going on 6+ hour rounds are in no way acceptable.

A perfect way to spend a HOT Sunday afternoon watching what could be a intriguing climax to the comp. 😀🏌🏽♂️

What a magnificent sporting contest that last 4-5 hours was.
McIlroy was superb from tee to green, but it just felt to me that for every single one of Smith's birdies McIlroy had a similar putt that missed by 2 or 3 inches. On another day McIlroy might have won by 4 or 5 shots.
I would have loved Rory to win, but you can't argue that the best man didn't win on the day.

I’ve got to say… Proud of the history and all the pomp and circumstance and all but…it’s not a great watch is it? It's fantastic for history but the course shouldn't be used for an Open Championship again. 20 under to win a Major is abysmal. 8-12 under max. Fortunately some of the bunkers made it interesting but aside from that it's time to let it go.

Apart from baking the ground the weather made it pretty easy in fairness- I'm obviously biased but much prefer Carnoustie as its still hard when the wind isn't howling. Loads of them got away with just twatting it at St Andrews as fairways are massive.
