Left the club as their contracts are up.
Thanks lads, you had good moments in a Stoke shirt. All the best for the future.

I wish them all the best.
But it's a very good decision not to offer them any extension.
The test is going to be whether we can bring in better options.

I’d have personally kept Smith. I’ll be interested to see who we are going to bring in who gets us more assists at right wing back next season.

We have been too overdependent on the wing backs imo. They have got the highest assists generally because it's the only way we look to get through teams.

One of the reasons we were overdependent on it is you couldn't really play Smith in a back four in the end as he was a pretty awful defender and we don't really have a left back fit for the job either.

Absolutely, that's my reading of it too. We didn't recruit the personnel to play it any other way. On the other side, you cant depend on Fox who goes AWOL while defending and has been mostly injured so that side is also limited for choice. Poor recruitment really. I'm not a massive fan of Tymon but he deserves a bloody medal for the job he's been asked to do and to his credit has improved and given everything.

Fletchers legs have well and truly gone at this level and Smith had one good game in ten.

So glad we’ve not offered Smith an extension absolute momentum vacuum. Assists were misleading, his stats from open play were shite.

Few teams do. The wing back system is likely here to stay. How many teams consistently play one way at home and another way away? I don’t know any that do in a league with as many games as the Championship. There’s simply just not enough time to train it.

Both good pros but we won’t be getting out of this division anytime soon with the likes of these two Chester, Fox and a few others. Clearing the decks for incoming but I don’t hold much hope of there being massive improvements 😡

Looking at Vokes, Fletcher can still do a good job at that level

I can get down with wishing all the best to Smith. A good pro who, despite his limitations, always gave the impression he was doing his best & had some memorable moments as well.
Fletcher on the other hand; maybe I'm in a bitter minority here but I think he's been a joke for a while and won't be getting well wishes from me. "His legs have gone" I'm sorry but far too many times this season he's fucked up a move by going for a fancy flick that comes off a very low % of the time when a simpler pass would've been successful a very high % of the time. My cynical perception is that he's not been playing with the best interest of the team in mind, but playing with a view to creating a few youtube highlights to give himself something to look back on when he's finally retired. I genuinely believe that's been his mentality for a while and I'm glad to see the back of him.

How come other clubs announce who is leaving in one go and we seem to let it drag out?

How come other clubs announce who is leaving in one go and we seem to let it drag out? Sure I remember hearing the assistant manager say in an interview that they know who would be leaving.

I’d have personally kept Smith. I’ll be interested to see who we are going to bring in who gets us more assists at right wing back next season. He was a great passer of responsibility who had an uncanny knack for dawdling just long enough on the ball for the opposition to get back into shape.

I thought Smith stated the season very well , getting to the line and putting the ball across the face of the goal .However he stopped beating his man and putting the ball into the box about xmas time, any way i wish both of them well for the future.
