"The Apprentice" is of course a popular Television series in the UK. Apart from a few clips and trailers I have never seen it myself, but today my attention was drawn to a BBC Radio sequence promoting what I think is the series final. The advert was accompanied by a backing track which I believe is the theme to the programme, whilst also being originally "The Dance of the Knights" from the ballet Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev.
Sergei was born in 1891 in Sontsovka, part of what is now Donetsk, an area of "Ukraine" which is now disputed, and he himself identified with Russia. The composer's work was mainly performed for Soviet audiences and work such as the Romeo and Juliet Ballet is now strongly associated with Moscow and the Kirov State Ballet.
This piece, The Dance of the Knights, is now widely regarded as being iconically Russian, and even as being a second National Anthem, in a similar way that we Brits have adopted and used "Land of Hope and Glory". Surely in the current international crisis, with Russia's prosecution of the War in Ukraine, this ostentatious use by the BBC of such an identifiably Russian musical composition, should lead to broadcasts of the Apprentice being suspended, or the show being banned, as the music epitomises and reinforces Russian Triumphalism and expansionist ambitions.
And while we're at it, should we not also be reviewing the use of Prokofiev's theme at Sunderland Home matches when the team runs out?

Have Russian Dwarf hamsters been culled yet? I'm not sure, but "Manuel's Siberian Hamster" or rat, is certainly in danger.

Had a spare few minutes so just contributing to the debate. Anything representative of Russian interest seems to be a fair target for examination these days.
Edit: I have to say that some work colleagues were more keen on testing my assertion that I don't watch the Apprentice than they were on censoring elements of russian musical culture. There was a lobby on both sides of the argument in regard to TATU and Pussy Riot!

Have Russian Dwarf hamsters been culled yet? Hope so, the little bastards with their beady eyes Are we just going to ban everything Russian now? When the Falklands 'conflict' was on, Argentinian TV were only allowed to refer to England as 'the team in White' during the WC or whatever colour wearing which was a bit petty but seems the same here now. Am away to watch Gorky Park before they ban in. What about vodka?

Russia now gets villified and abused for attempting to subvert the truth in their homeland news, and insisting that no-one should refer to their invasion as a "War". They describe their action as a "Special Military Operation". TRUTH is the first casualty of War. I always found it interesting that the above named UK operation to liberate the Falklands in the 80's was referred to by the British, as a "Conflict" rather than a War. In that respect we behaved in a similar way to Russia now in trying to play down the extent and significance of our military operations. We ourselves were to some extent trying to avert International criticism and censure and attempting to present our activities as a justifiable response.

They should just cancel it anyway because its a really shit TV programme
The first 3 seasons were OK, but as with stuff like Big Brother, it stops attracting actual talent and starts to get 'wannabe celebs' on who play up to the camera to make a 'career'
Aided it must be said by Sugars over inflated ego that has grown immeasurably during the lifecycle of the programme, for a bloke who 'came from a barrow stall' he is incredibly arrogant and rude, surrounded by twats in the most part - if you have ever followed him on Twitter (I unfollowed some time back!) he constantly either advertises shit, tires to be funny with Piers Morgan, or usually ends up falling out with and blocking anybody who disagrees with his point of view
A man I used to find quite likeable is now a parody twat of himself!

I think there's only something like 22 countries the UK has never tried to invade...not that we can hold them to account for past history of course. I used the term 'conflict' in that way above for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

edit: Robo 10. "A man I used to find quite likeable is now a parody twat of himself!
If I was reading for a Degree in Media Studies, I would find one aspect of interest on the Apprentice, would be a focus on the Character, Personality and Mental processes of the show's figurehead. We have Alan Sugar. Interestingly the USA went with Donald Trump.
Vladimir Putin for the next "Venezualan Exile" version?

When I initiated this thread I was raising what I felt to be a genuine concern about projections of Russian Cultural influence, rather than an attack on the programme itself.
As stated I have never watched the series myself, other than clips, but many posters described Lord Sugar as being variously rude and arrogant, reinforcing my belief that I haven't missed anything. I heard another radio trailer this morning and apparently we are down to the final choice of candidate, allowing Lord Sugar to utter the tag line: "Congratulations, you're my new business partner." I wish just once at this point someone would turn round to him and say: "Actually, you know what? I don't want it!" Now that would be an ending worth watching!

There was something similar some years back when Sugar selected Katie Hopkins into the final three, and she turned him down flat.

Wasn’t the term “conflict “ used rather than “war” due to the complications of our involvement in NATO, specifically the fact that the US saw the “conflict” as a fight between two of their friends so wanted to avoid picking a side. Leastways, that’s how I recall it.

It often seems to suit the Governments and the Military of many nations to use euphemisms and misleading information to describe their activities, especially when they wish to conceal or trivialise some aspects of their campaigns. Always try not to use the term "War" if you can avoid it, seems to be the maxim.
There must be many examples of this reality but the first one that comes to mind involving the British is the "Kenya Emergency." Between 1952 and 1960 the British fought an extended campaign against a rebellion by Mau Mau tribesmen in Kenya. So in effect 8 years of War and, over that sort of time scale, hardly an emergency.
