The old JJB Sports.
IKEA stores are famously not very big and there's one in every city in the UK except for Stoke which shows you how much of a backwater this place is.
I reckon if the council put loads of public toilets everywhere though that could persuade the Swedish flat-pack hawkers to grace Hanley with its presence.

And anyway IKEA considered a site years ago but decided not to as they felt it was too close to other stores

Opening on a grotty little industrial estate about half a mile from the centre of town. Not good for those who don't drive.

I “worked” at the company who has the contract to fit all the Wagamamas out nationwide for two decades. It’s not in my best interest to comment about either😏 Good news is, the company is based in Stoke on Trent. So a bit of a boost there for any anti Stoke slaggers!

Could probably replace most of the potteries centre as most of the shops are shit or empty now. The old Lewis’s is a massive blueprint for it and use the old Tesco go outdoors as it’s car park.

Should have been an IKEA. Yeah, cos we all need more stuff to jam up our homes. Too bad about trees cut down, agricultural land lost to factories, hydrocarbon converted into everlasting plastic, more wagons chucking out emissions and clogging up the roads just so someone can spend an afternoon buying a saucepan that's slightly shinier than the one they 've already got. I'm nauseated by the sight of people in B&M ( for instance) buying up crap made from the planet's rain forests that will be in the bin by the end of the year. Make the most of what you have.

Somethings better than nothing. Its a decent well established chain with decent food. Just hope the people in Stoke can pull the pies and oatcakes out of their chops to taste it.

"We'll have none of this foreign muck" As my grandad called it, “splodge” Briliant. A good friend of mines old man won't eat any of that 'foreign muck'. Won't eat pizza or nothing..... Remember him telling me a story about his old man walking in a curry house with a hanky over his nose. He asked him what was up to which he replied he doesn't like the smell!!!

And anyway IKEA considered a site years ago but decided not to as they felt it was too close to other stores I may well have imagined this, but when I worked in the centre of Hanley in the 1980's I thought there was a small IKEA store in Picadilly, near where Bucks Jewellers used to be. I'm pretty sure the store was there then and even had the prominent display of a Swedish flag outside.

Back when it actually had shops, and Hanley wasn't blighted by violent beggars, dustheads and street drinkers. I think I remember that. Was rarely in Hanley ever to be honest but my ex gf worked in Ernest Jones jewellers before they moved to Crewe. The outside of the shopping centre had one of those fried donut places I seem to remember.
