He was the one who dropped deeper though and was the one linking the play in the way a number 10 does. Brown was the out and out centre forward. So I’m not sure why we’re saying there’s no way he could play as a 10? I dont see him as a serious option to play midfield in a 433 or whatever variation of. He’s a wide attacker in my opinion. He wouldn't really be playing midfield, he'd be playing essentially as a creative forward just behind the strikers.

I can’t imagine anyone was seriously asking for him to play in that role yesterday when the teams were announced. His name seems to be getting banded about simply because he’s not Sam Clucas.

What key players will we lose? People like Souttar, Campbell, Baker, Powell will be tempted to move on, some to the Premiership to teams like Burnley. Powell possibly because of his contract status although I think a deal is there to be done. Can't see any of the others going anywhere. We will definitely see Smith, Allen, Fletcher and Chester go and possibly Vrancic, I expect Thompson will be offered a new deal and one of Moore/Jagielka. Clucas, TOB and Fox we will try and move on. Then that leaves THB and JPB who I think we could possibly get back for another season, Sawyers and Maja. I would expect the team to be something like this come August: Bursik New RBWilmott Souttar New LB
Baker (c) New CMFCampbell Powell JPB (loan) Maja Bonham, New GK, Duhaney, Jagielka/Moore, Tymon, Doughty, Thompson, New CMF, DWP, Brown, New CF, Taylor, Forrester, Tezgel. I think the key is two really good full backs and a midfielder to compliment Baker, if we get that side of our recruitment right we should see an exciting team......

You think we are no closer now than in MON's first season seriously? Batshit crazy when you take everything into account on and off the field. I know the use of hyperbole on here is off the scale but the margins are so small hanging on against Forest and seeing out the win yesterday puts us in a really strong position going into the last 15 games of the season. Let's just see how the last third of the season pans out and assess things from there....... Like it or not I think we are no closer and the table the only measure that really counts suggests the same . If the board were asked at the start of last season would 13th be acceptable with 15 games to go next season , adrift of Luton , Huddersfield and Coventry I’m not convinced they would have been met in the affirmative given the relative positions and resources of those.clubs at the time , I accept it’s fine margins but that’s where fine managers make a difference The table says nothing of the sort, this season isn't over yet so as I say we need to assess in the summer when the remaining third of the season has panned out. But we were 17 points off the play offs last season and currently we're 6 with 15 games to go so we shall see.......

I never thought we’d see Clucas starting again tbh apart from against Hull and Swansea.
We’d have been much better using DWP.
Or if he wants that more experienced head in there, Baker as a 10 with Thompson behind.
Baker can play on the half turn. Clucas can’t.

About our worst player after Chester that has played regularly.

I’d still like to see MON try Baker, Powell and one of Vrancic or Sawyers as a trio. You don’t have to have a holding midfielder, especially when we are desperate for victories. We need to throw the kitchen sink at it. Agree the full back areas are the cause for most concern as it has been for the last few years. We just can’t seem to get it right.

Three of those players are under contract, they can be as 'tempted' as they want. On the players side contacts usually mean sod all and if they want to go their agents can wangle a move to a bigger club quite easily!

They can't just casually wander off as and when they please, we're looking at £40-£50m minimum for the three if that happens (which it won't, this summer at least).
