Hope and Anchor Cellarhead on a Sunday night. The Left Bank…up Hanley duck The Highwayman If you were up Cellarhead, Moreville Hall was my Sunday night lock in. Always went out with the intention of a quiet one after a big Saturday, game of darts and pool. Then before I knew it was 2 or 3am.

I don’t think they’ve done it up since. I remember seeing Georgie Berry at the Hope and Grope….

Single, no kids, no mortgage etc etc Seems like yesterday mate Bands upstairs off to Bridge St Arts Centre for a late one via the Jug I spent most of mid to late 70’s in The Old Brown Jug. Gladys Beech used to let me keep slippers behind the bar. She also put a really crappy jukebox in, which was brilliant because she let us put our own 45’s on it. “Red Shoes” Elvis Costello was one of the first. Bloke who ran the undertakers across the road got done for drunk driving and speeding in a hearse with a coffin in the back. Happy days indeed……..

Could be a bit lively back in the day, especially between Middlewich and Northwich. I lived in Elworth for a bit which is why when you mentioned a pub called the Fox it came to mind. There were three in Sanbach on the cobbles the Bear is probably the one you were thinking of.

Saturday night they'd sometimes have a mike open at the Smithfield as well. The codgers lived us singing Pogues songs at closing time :-)

An asylum of a place, pimps, prostitutes, and drag queens....not for the faint hearted.

It often got even messier as we'd be starving and get down into Hanley into that Indian over the bus station. It seemed always open. Was it called Al Sheiks or something?

Wasn't there a pub called the Boozy Dog in either Hanley or Castle that would serve anyone? Remember going in as about a 17 year old and felt old. Boozy dog was n the ironmarket in Newcastle. The saying was, Boozy dog, go in and get one.

With playing footy in the Ansells League from 78 up to 2001, you were encouraged to visit the away teams pub after the game, so obviously visited plenty. one that sticks out was the in Mow Cop, the pitch was actually bang on the pubs land, tiny and sloping. Think it was called The Ash Inn. Anyway, the bonus was, after the snapping generously given on came the strippers, some of our young uns' faces were a picture!! Farmers Arms Congleton Miners Arms Milton Thurston Bentilee Marsh Head Kidsgrove Queens Dog and Partridge Packmoor Three Tuns Longton Matador Biddulph Hazlehursts Chell Knave Chell Rileys Ancient Britain
I could go on, great days, go footy, pub, stay there all day, home for tea then back out again, and still made work the next day somehow.
All the long lost Meir pubs, Thorley ,Station ,Kings Arms, Coyney Arms, Weston Inn, (Lautrecs) Waterhead ,Tiger Moth, Waggon, Meir Club. Sad, just one remaining thats Catchems Corner.

Being a longton lad i remember and drank in the following boozers, sadly now all gone.
The Waterloo ( the smokiest pub i ever visited) The union hotel The shamrock The bridge The cricketers The three tuns The leisure bowl The crown hotel bar The roebuck on caroline street The half way house The bottom vine The top vine The miners arms
When i was younger, me and my mates used to drink in longton before heading the wagon and horses in meir, going up old uttoxeter road.
Our route took us past a load of sadly gone boozers
Robin Hood (my local) The albion The Royal Oak The gamekeeper Tam o shanter (still open i think) The normacot hotel The rose The station (then to dereks chippy en route to the meir) The kings arms The wagon and horses
A lot of my youth was spent in those pubs. And all that's left are the memories. I still miss my run down local the robin hood.
Last week i went to the signalman, the sealion, the congress and the ashwood with my brother in memory of our dad who had recently passed away. He would be happy knowing his locals are still going.

Wife was looking in her old diaries from the 80s before we got married. Plenty of pub visits! Many we remembered, such as the drop inn, trader jacks, the limelight, the dunrobin, robateaus?, quenchers, the out of town, shades, seven stars (sandon). There are some we can't even remember - Springfield's? the dolls house? Can anyone remember these and where they were? Doing our heads in! 🙂 Shamrock Clarendon Portland

Nearly killed me. Al Sheikh’s was the Balti down Shelton.
