Won the game easily with a patchwork side. Didn't play all that well but Wigan were made to look very poor. Would have had more goals if we hadn't tried to get Fletcher to score for his 4th team against Wigan. Great to see players unhappy to be taken off. Thought we had a patch where Wigan looked the better side. Jacob's goal was against the run of play. Other than that the front 4 look good IMO. Campbell getting involved a bit more was nice.

A doff of the cap to Bursik for his celebration for the second goal

That seems like a routine win against a lower division side. What kind of side did they put out, full strength or with an eye on promotion?

Ty still looks to me like he’s lacking a bit of confidence. He was struggling with his back, but he bottled a few challenges.

I'd be loath to play Fletcher ever again, he's missed at least three sitters today and he has had his day! Yep, the one that hit the bar, just stroke it into the corner

He’s a regular goal scorer for Stoke, according to the commentator on the stream I watched.. Can’t actually remember his last one!

An odd thing from today, there seemed to be a lack of awareness their player who got sent off was already on a yellow. I’ve never know anything like it.

An odd thing from today, there seemed to be a lack of awareness their player who got sent off was already on a yellow. I’ve never know anything like it. I read that slightly differently. It seemed to me there was a general awareness, particularly among the players as well as the crowd that he was on his way. This was re-enforced by the player, who certainly knew he was going to get his second yellow, already heading to the changing room before the ref got to him to show the cards. So I thought the lack of initial reaction was because there was no great drama to the moment, not least because we were already 2-0 up and well on top and the dismissal was in no doubt. (Possibly the most obvious red card since Pennant’s brainstorm against Everton). Of course, the brandishing of a red to an opponent is always a cause for a cheer which it duly got. I’m usually on my feet screaming for a red card in those situations but on this occasion I just sat back and thought “daft tackle when your on a yellow; you’re off”. Oh, and I did cheer when the red came out.

A few reflections on yesterday’s game (after a very rare attendance at a Stoke game).
First… I thought we played pretty well. At times very well. A few keystone cop moments in defence as well as one or two “after you Claude” exchanges as players looked at each other, but that seemed mainly due to players not being too familiar with each other. There was though lots of good football with the ball being worked really well from back to front.
Also, both goals were high quality. A superb pass down the line set up the first, and fantastic interplay created the second. Fine finishes for the goals too.
The atmosphere was pretty good. Plenty of noise pre-match from a large Wigan support helped fire us up. They were pretty subdued during the game while we kept up a good buzz, reflecting what was going on on the park I guess.
Funniest moment of the match was late on when a long haired, Jesus look-a-like a few rows in front of me (who looked like he’d been enjoying a bit too much wine) got a stern talking to from some old dear who looked like she’d had enough of him jumping up and down blocking her view. I may have got this wrong, she may have been seeking a benediction but she had a stony look on her face. Little things do amuse me!
Main thing is, I had a great time!
COYMP!
