I'd prefer loan signings that we have the opportunity to sign permanent in the summer.
That won't be the case with him so they'll be massive overhaul agin in the summer.

Can he play in midfield at all?

Certainly sounds like he'd probably play the central, Jagielka role?
Arsenal are exploring January loan options for Omar Rekik as they look to aid his development with first-team action.
Rekik, a Tunisia international, turns 20 this month and could still get opportunities in cup competitions.
But The Athletic understands the club feel Rekik needs regular first-team exposure and minutes to aid his development.
Rekik is highly thought of at London Colney and has been a key figure for Kevin Betsy’s youth side this season.
Two muscle tears halted the centre-back’s progress after his arrival in January 2020 from German side Hertha BSC, but he has played more regularly this campaign, making 13 appearances in all competitions.
Rekik has a contract at Arsenal until 2025 and was involved in their pre-season tour of Scotland, making his unofficial first-team debut against Hibernian.

What sort of player is Rekik? Standing at 6ft1in and very broad, Rekik is an imposing centre-back, both with and without the ball.
Often played in a back three and five, he is usually the centre-back given licence to drive forward with the ball to start attacks for Betsy’s side. At times he will opt to carry the ball into midfield, play one-twos to get around opponents or try longer passes upfield.
Defensively, he is strong in the air and tends to read the game well, but lacks the pace of those playing either side of him.
Betsy has used a back four more often this month, with Rekik featuring. As the first-team moved away from a back three last season, developing further in a back four at first-team level will be beneficial.
Does he need first-team experience at this stage? To put it bluntly, yes.
Rekik is one of the members of the Under-23s side who appears most ready for the step up to first-team football. Folarin Balogun is another, who Arsenal also intend to send out on loan in January.
First-team opportunities at Arsenal have been particularly hard to come by for youngsters this season. Without European football, the League Cup has been used to give fringe players playing time.
The number of defenders in the first team makes that even more unlikely for Rekik, meaning that experience will likely come elsewhere.
What remains important is deciding where will be the right fit, however. There will naturally be an inclination to join a club who will encourage Rekik’s natural playing style to build on his first half of the season.

Puts pressure on the man he signed for 1.5m or the kid he bought in on loan from Man City.
Great that it pushes Chester down the line but another one that seems a tad excessive at this point?

Does this indicate staying in a back 5?
If so, I’m not for that.

Only seems necessary if we bring him in and go back to a back three. Jagielka is unlikely to play every game until the end of the season and if it’s a case of a good prospect versus Chester at the back, I know who I’d prefer presently.

Will Jagielkas legs last a full season and 3 games a week sometimes, needs a bot of rotation ? pretty obvious MON isn't going to play Forrester etc this season if this goes through

Hopefully this comes off, especially if we look to play 3 at the back again.

Sounds like the back 5 is here to stay, certainly in the majority of games?

At least MON is considering all options within a tight budget, preferring to loan out some of our fringe players who should get more playing time at a good standard

I think another CB makes sense. We are only an injury away from bringing Chester back. Looks like we might be back to a three. Think he's right footed but big clubs' right footed players are probably better with their left than Fox. Wonder if he'll be off? Unlikely as he can cover Tymon maybe..

Doesn't give any cover to a LB in a four either.

I don't get why we aren't trying to sign someone capable/comfortable of playing left side, seems an obvious hole in the squad.

Signed for Arsenal from Hertha, where he was described as a left sided centre back that could play in defensive midfield...
Rekik, a left sided centre back who has been playing on the left and in defensive midfield, has received offers from clubs across Europe, with his brother Karim - who plays in the same position - leaving Hertha to join Spanish giants Sevilla on a five-year contract last month.

No guarantees but looking likely is basically what it says. Nothing's ever guaranteed until the paper is signed. Ask Cardiff about Surridge which was being announced as if done at lunch time.
