They go to work just like the rest of us in order to earn as much money as possible
Those who object to the wages they get would feel differently if it was them or one of their loved ones getting paid for their talents
They’ve agreed a contract with their employers so good luck to them
Jealousy is an horrendous trait

At the end of the day, they are high level elite athletes so they deserve every penny people are willing to pay them.

I agree to a point but in individual sports like tennis you have to win, and win at the highest level to earn. In football you seemingly have to have a good agent, have played well for a 6 month period or be willing to drop down levels. Joe Allen earned effectively the same as Rafa Nadal in 2021 for actually playing their sport. Rafa obviously has more in sponsorship. Also Allen earns the same as Andy Robertson and £20kpw more than Saka and Tielemans

I know its hard as we're emotionally involved with stoke but the footballers are just doing the job. If agents weren't involved then footballers would be getting even more money?

Nobody’s beating anybody with a shitty stick! Simply amazed at how much he’s paid.. I agree if we’re stupid enough to pay him that much he’s of course going to take it.. just expect a bit more for your buck thats all.. hence the op title

Obviously the ammount of money in the game is obscene and well run clubs should be able to make a modest profit for their owners and shareholders and some money filtered down through the leagues and to the grassroots BUT the vast majority of the money in the game should quite rightly be going to these young men who provide the spectacle that produces all that money there is simply no rational argument against.

As far as player's salaries go, way too often figures get plucked out of the air and few extra K added on for good measure. No one realistically knows how much Allen etc earns. For an occupation where people all over the world watch in their millions week in week out perhaps the term overpaid is thrown around way too easily. I can't think of any other walk of life where the same happens. Football is a 10 billion £ industry, Wages in Basketball and Baseball are huge and not global sports.

I wonder how much he’s on a week, read somewhere 50k a week😱 That figure definitely gets quoted regularly and if true, it's no wonder we can't get rid of the undroppable, too good to sell, ultra loyal Joe Allen. Cannot say as I blame him though tbh.

Had no idea who we was, personally but he was like some stalker. Last thing I remember he was getting all worked up over people's number plates. Absolute jealous buffoon but like you said a horrendous trait Only very very select few make it as a footballer and takes special talents. Footballer's contracts in this country are also confidential so this..... I heard Joe Allen etc is on 50k a week is nonsense. No one heard that. Players/Agents etc are in reality not allowed under the terms to discuss salaries, am sure they do amongst themselves but people love to as said above, pluck an exaggerated figure out the air. The MLS slightly different as salaries are available to view.

Isn't Joe Allen the last of our premier league legacy players in terms of salary. I remember there being a handful of regulars who agreed to remain at the club after relegation providing they did not take a pay cut,Joe being one of them. Others were possibly Shawcross, Butland, Adam, Ndaiye and Bauer. I may be wrong.

I think out of that lot only Allen and Bauer actually signed new 4 year contracts after we'd been relegated and had no manager in post. Absurd decision by whoever made it. Don't forget even the players we initially signed in the championship are probably also on unsustainable contracts too. That's one thing in MON's favour he might have signed shit players but at least they're affordable shit players.

People have a right to challenge systems that work for a tiny overpaid minority, and yet don't work for for the vast underpaid majority of ordinary folk.
Especially now that we've reached the stage where ludicrously high footballer wages are bleeding our historic clubs dry, and forcing them to the wall.
Football clubs should be the lifeblood of the entire local community.
Not just throwing untold riches at a handful of sullen, uncommunicative, out-of-town mercenaries, half of whom just want to sit on the bench each week, listening to shitty R&B on their designer headphones! 🎧
To put the current wage insanity into some sort of context, Cristiano Ronaldo could afford to buy my entire house, after about HALF A DAY of work. The same house it takes me, (an honest hard-working graduate), 25 years of work to pay off!
It's madness. Wages are spiralling ever more out of control. All driven by ordinary clubs' desperation to keep up with those who are backed by the dirty money of billionaire oil barons, often from despotic regimes.
(And how the hell do those scumbags pass the shambles that is the "fit and proper person" test?!?)💰💰💰
We're in a sad state of affairs at the moment.
Gotta love that counter argument though; "hey if you were in the 1% of people who are vastly overpaid millionaires, instead of the 99% of people who aren't, you wouldn't be complaining!"
Well maybe I wouldn't?
But the system that rewarded me would still be very wrong. ☹️

Wonder if Tony Scholes revenues this in his ‘legacy’ ? Nowt to do with him he’s left the club in a position we could only dream about l your failing to recognise his 17 years of unprecedented success and the fantastic position he leaves is in despite having responsibility for nothing

As an argument against football players wages in an unrestrained capitalist system it just doesn't work.

Strangely we rarely seem to get to see any of this high level elite athleticism at Stoke.
