Another appalling decision in this tournament. Clash of heads in a legitimate challenge, both players clearly knocked out. Keeper, who arguably did commit a foul, at worst a free kick as it’s completely accidental. VAR turns up again, ref decides to send off a concussed keeper and yet Mane who was out cold for a second or 2 is allowed to stay on the pitch and continue playing. This tournament is beyond a fix and is a really band advertisement for African football. Terrible. There has been some odd decisions by referees and VAR that's for sure but no more than what occurs in the Premier league in England, most of the VAR reviews regarding the sending offs have been correct, the one above was debatable as the goalkeeper seemed not to commit a foul, merely collided with the attacker. The tournament so far has not been a bad advertisement for African football, there have been some competitive games with good attacking play and some superb goals scored, also lesser known teams have made progress. There's been some dud games of course but that is tournament international football. Roll on the quarter finals.

It's been a good tournament as a whole. Not the greatest game tonight but two evenly matched teams not wanting to lose is not going be to a spectacle, the Cameroon penalties were atrocious. Last nights game was better, Senegal are a good team with good squad depth, even VAR did a good job. Senegal v Egypt should be a good final, they're also drawn against each other in the AFCON World Cup play-offs so only one can make the finals.

Have just heard Johnny Acres on BBC 5Live providing the match updates for them on there. Unsure if he's actually over at the final in Africa in person or doing it in a spare bedroom at home, but quite a prestigious event for him to be working on for the MSM.. Know he occasionally does Premier League matches for 5Live and Final Score but wasn't expecting to him providing a match report on the AFCON when the Bournemouth match commentary had finished.

This has penalties written all over it. Have Egypt been playing for penalties from the start?

I cannot believe the media pay this comp so much attention. The standard of football is fucking dreadful. They may as well televise Coors Div 4 matches, it would be more entertaining.

The biggest issue they need to sort is the pitches, they were a disgrace and a couple were practically unplayable. The tournament itself has promise, I enjoyed glimpses of it but some was just turgid, Egypt particularly.............

Well done to Senegal, deserved tournament winners. Played some good football, Mendy, Koulibaly & Mane are class players. Egypt tried the defensive route to victory, thankfully it didn't work. AFCON continues to grow and that is good for world football in general, more work to do about corruption though.
