Has this been done? Pondering 2021 I suddenly had a flashback to the end of 2020, us being near the top of the "calendar year" table, and thinking what a positive sign for the future it was in terms of our "big-picture" development under MON. I decided to do a quick comparison with 2021. It's sobering. So with four fewer games we got 10 more points and scored nine more goals. Goal difference from 2020 to 2021 swung 14 goals to the negative from +11 to -3. PPG dropped from 1.63 to 1.28, losing us 16.5 points overall. If you extrapolate our 2020 record to the games played in 2021, we'd be 3rd in the table, several points clear of 4th and with 2+ games in hand on all the teams below us. There are some mitigating factors maybe but it certainly provides a different perspective on our overall "progress" than it does if you look season by season.

The more the squad has become MON's own, the poorer we've become.

I don't see the need for these comparisons. We are currently 8th and 5 points off 6th with 2 games in hand. That's surely the best metric with which to judge him long-term?
Our form table (last 6 games) has us in 21st. That's surely the best metric to judge him with in the short-term?
What difference does it make if we scored a lot of goals in the calendar year 2020, a year that was split across two seasons.
QPR are second in the 2021 year, but have only won two more games than us this season.

I think without producing any stats, that this season has been much the same as last and those tables remind us of how much more positive MON was when he first arrived. Without losing any players that made a major contribution to those results and having money to spend he's contrived to produce a team that scores less goals, wins less games, loses more but concedes a few less. He really does need to be put on notice that his performance is simply not acceptable.

All this silly football rubbish is a herring rouge. What matters is spending loads of money. If were in the national leagu it doesn't matter as long as we're spending hundreds of millions
