Started with Gregory and Berahino up front today....lost 1-0 at Shrewsbury
From the Weds forum. Quotes
On Berahino
"That was one of the worst displays from a Wednesday player I've ever seen...no effort. no closing down and a first touch that Stevie Wonder would do better. And then had the fuckingcheek to start pointing at the other players for not closing down when he hadn't got a sweat on all match...why is he even in the squad never mind starting... I'm completely baffled ".
"At least he was involved in the game unlike Gregory who did fluff all"
"A Big Time Charlie who has never done anything. He's a legend in his head."
"Gregory and Berahino offer about as much movement as two static caravans."
"Him and Gregory is no strike partnership at all and I would rather play with 10 men only instead of having Berahino ever on the pitch or bench again."
"He's lightweight, couldn't trap a bag of cement, has no pace. He must be brilliant at the weekly bible bash or something."
Nothing we didnt know I suppose

5-6 years of non stop shit signings isn't it? We can't get a single one right and as a result we look consigned to many more years of nothing

Thought he was a player that gave everything in every game he played, but unfortunately he wasn't clinical enough in front of goal.

That’s what happens when you sign our cast offs. Theyve got to be bad if we don’t want them! 😂

It's embarrassing to think we paid BIG money on Berahino..... Don't you just want the ground to swallow you up!!!

It's embarrassing to think we paid BIG money on Berahino..... Don't you just want the ground to swallow you up!!! Comfortably the worst signing this club has ever made. If ever one signing epitomised the state of this football club over the last 5 years then this utter weapon was it. Mark Hughes and whoever sanctioned this deal should have been hung, drawn and quartered in the streets of Stoke for this deal.

Transfer fee minimum £12m Reportedly on £75K a week for 5.5 years Reported total fee £33m
The worst signing this football club has ever made. A player who sums up everything that is bad about modern football.

A player who sums up everything that is bad about modern football. At the time for a young Premier striker with a decent record it would have been a steal had it worked out. In hindsight you could have said look at his character but it was understandable to think his problem at WBA was down to his failed transfer to Spurs (Didn't they have a £30 million offer turned down?) and we could turn him round. Arnautovic was just as big a risk and we could have been talking about him being a disastrous signing instead of one of our best. Hindsight is a great thing and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who hoped and almost expected us to rescue Berahino's career. Unfortunately he was a complete waste of money but I still can't say it wasn't worth the risk.

There are not many signings for Prem clubs like Stoke that don't have a risk factor especially when you get into £10m + territory. There was definitely enough evidence to suggest that he had the potential and for whatever reasons (and it can be more than 1) it never materialised. It turned out to be a disaster and we were the losers. We know all that now!

Everyone in football knew it wasn't hindsight. He's a joke to his profession. Really? Where is the evidence for this? Every comment / interview he made in the media. But this para from an article on him sums it up: “ The signs of petulance were there from an early age. When on loan at Brentford he was sent back to his parent club early. He had been substituted off early in a match against Leyton Orient, an incident which led to the player venting his frustration on Twitter. He called out manager Uwe Rösler for his incompetency and as such, had his loan terminated. In an isolated incident, this could be attributed to the stupidity of youth, but after a number of years of misdemeanors and mishaps, it appears that Berahino is simply a deeply reckless man.”

Gregory should go join up with Hogan again, decent partnership from the game they started together when we played at Charlton. Given time I reckon they could have scored a fair few together

He had scored 20 goals in his first 45 games at Premier League level. He definitely had the potential....but he blew it big time! I think it was also a matter of Hughes' ego though. He thought he was big enough to turn anyone's head in the right direction. Succeeded with Arnie but was probably out of his depth with Berahino.

But it wasn’t up until his ‘spat with Pulis and Pearce’ - he was getting sent back from loans early even though he was scoring. Playing at England youth level just shows he could behave himself for a few days - or it didn’t matter as he was with the squad temporarily. It wasn’t hindsight, everyone in football did seemingly know his character - and yes Hughes is at fault for signing him, because Hughes is a charlatan, who merely introduced our boardroom and directors to the Association of Crooked Football Agents. Arnie turned out good, but another shitty character who was only here for himself.

Good analysis there but the comparison with Arnie is wrong imo...Arnie was really low risk only shelling around 2 mil for him, it was clear from day one that We'd unearthed a gem...that was never the case with Berahino.

At that point though, he was on fire and hadn’t spent the next 6-12 months singing “woe to me” at the top of his lungs while simultaneously performing crap for WBA.

Thought he was a player that gave everything in every game he played, but unfortunately he wasn't clinical enough in front of goal. I always thought he was good at looking like he gave everything I agree with this. I think his work rate was very, very impressive when we first got him, but less so as it continued. He did still do more than those around him, but not as much as perhaps he was capable of. He was actually pretty decent with his back to goal, but nowhere near good enough as a solo striker in a team that didn’t create a lot of chances.

It’s a sad state of affairs that these 2 are still stealing a living. Not so difficult to understand why youngsters find it so hard to break through when you have so called professional managers continually selecting rotting dross such as These two.
