Brilliant player for us and perfectly suited to Pulis’s way of playing.
It would be interesting to see how he fared in today’s game. His style of wing play is very much out of fashion.

Great times when Matty was here. Played his best football for us As did so many at that time and is proof , if needed, of what a great coaching set up we had. Great to see Matty building a career - hope it goes really well for him (despite having a bad start on Sat 🤞)

I always like to think that TP and Stoke turned his life around. I think his father acknowledged that,if memory serves, recall him saying in an interview how proud it made him feel when we sang his son's song (in a similar way to Bojan's old man?) Important player for us,we only had Ric who had the ability to run the ball up the pitch in that first season until Ethers signed. Had a season or two when he wouldn't have disgraced himself in an England shirt playing on the left, and his form and work ethic probably merited it for a while. Arnie was something else again tho'.

Agent Etherington, your mission, should you wish to accept, is to widdle in Adrian Durhams tea cup. Please acknowledge receipt of message....

I know Arnoutivic was fantastic but for me Etherington was the better winger
Arnie up front would solve any issues though

Etherington was great for us wasn't he? A legendary Stoke player as far as I'm concerned. Hope his lot lose though

He deserved to go to the World Cup, how it never happened I’ve no clue. Much like Shawcross not getting called up after the Sweden game. God I fucking love Ethers, an absolute joy to watch for Stoke. Him an Pennant were unstoppable.

These memories are some of the reason I actually really like Southgate, I’d have been much more surprised if he didn’t get in during the current regime if they were around a decade or so ago.

The injury against Wolves, seeing him stretcheted off, when he and the team were in such fine form was a sickening moment.

It was very exciting when he got the ball, a bit like Chambo. We have had some class players in our more recent incarnation - Ethers, Arnie, Nzonzi (all of the boys of 2008)...

One of the best sights in the game seeing a winger on a run down the wing and pinging a ball in. Etherington was great to watch and such a quality signing.
