Are there any proper bakeries still left in the area? I can still remember being sent as a 5 year old to the (long gone) bakery at the top of Macclesfield Street in Burslem during the 1970's bread strike, and being told to say, "please may I have two cobs please"?
I had a tin loaf from my local Asda the other day that was barely more interesting than Kingsmill, so I'd like to try some sourdough or something traditional.

There’s one up the road from us in Woore, nice but bloody expensive for a loaf but there’s loads of choices.

The one at Woore looks like the kind of bakery I'm looking for, shame it's so far away.
I'll check Bengrys out as they are not too far for me.

Grocotts in Northwood back in the day, lovely fresh bread.... And they did bacon, sausage etc sandwiches as well... Could smell it round the corner!

Try the breadincommon website, the shop itself is on Hartshill Road I think but the majority of it is ordered on line in the week for delivery on Friday around the city. There’s the Trentham Bakehouse as well if it’s still going?

On a more wider note stoke has a very few independent shops, especially clothes.

On another wider note there's a little bakery/patisserie newly opened on the roundabout in Cheadle. Seen people queueing up, must be good

Only popped in a few times but from memory a small loaf costs around 2.50-£3.00, guy who owns it is a nice chap and passionate/knowledgeable about their products. Recall him telling me something about their ingredients and Roman soldiers weirdly.
