I'm no fan of the institution, but folk can't choose the family they were born into and old Liz did a sterling job in the role she inherited over 7 long decades.
The photo of her smiling lovingly at hubby Phil on the BBC thread captures her human side beautifully, transcending all that pomp and pageantry that does nothing at all for me.

RIP Ma'am.
A public servant to the last that served with tremendous humility, integrity and diligence. A near perfect example of a sovereign with a reign the like of which will surely never be matched in terms of both its length and the degree of national transformation that it has presided over. A moment of great national sadness.

RIP Liz, an incredible effort duck. I'm sure many of us have seen it happen in our lives that an old married couple die in fairly quick succession like this, like one doesn't want to carry on without the other almost. It's Sad but understandable in a way I suppose.

A pretty seismic moment for everyone really. Not a royalist myself, but her not being there as queen will be new for most people who live in the country. You can’t help admire what she did. May she rest in peace.

I'm sure many of us have seen it happen in our lives that an old married couple die in fairly quick succession like this, like one doesn't want to carry on without the other almost. It's Sad but understandable in a way I suppose. She caught Covid earlier this year and for a woman of her age, formidable as she is, that was probably the beginning of the end for her.

Rip, Very sad news.
Off topic but I’ve always thought that Jerusalem would be brilliant as the national anthem.

Its very sad for the family and the stability she has offered over time
I'm not much of a monarchist, but she served this country well over a long time
Didnt look well of late, so I hope she slipped peacefully away without any pain.
RIP Maam.

hard to overstate the global response to her death. Indeed, although I did have to laugh at the anchors on a US news channel referring to Balmoral as 'an hospital'.
