Liverpool is a fantastic city along with Birmingham & Nottingham which are fantastic cities to visit, Manchester obviously tops the lot.... So how you come to the conclusion that Liverpool is one of the worst cities is beyond me... Get thee sen up the northern 1/4 on the ale Cracking day out A few of us from work met up in Stoke for a beer then decided to jump a train to Manchester, different level of a good day out massively. Not a single knob head in sight and eye opening how many people were at Stoke station doing the same thing, literally hundreds of normal folk going to Manchester or Birmingham for a quality day/evening out. Most of the pubs we visited I knew people from Stoke who were doing the same, Browns in Manchester was like walking into scrimmies on Smallthorne bank as I knew lots of the lads who were doing the same as us. We can discuss how poor Stoke is as a whole but the place will never change guaranteed.

It’s noticeable that many of the cities that are having or have had successful regeneration are also university cities…..Nottingham, Manchester, Bristol, Liverpool, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Southampton and probably more. Keel Uni probably aligns itself more to Newcastle than Stoke on Trent. True, but we’re lucky we have two. The sooner we consider ourselves “North Staffordshire” consisting of NUL/SOT/SMDC the better. We’d get 5 MPs and hopefully much bigger sway nationally. Let everywhere south of Stafford got to the West Mids and be done with it

One of my favourite cities is Nottingham, but what a twat to get to considering it’s only about 35 miles as the crow flies.

And when they build it, it would have a regular service that has a train with more than 2 carriages. And it runs after 9pm?? I wonder 🤔🤔🤔

An total eye opener for me. Lots of investment going on, with new buildings going up, and a lot of inner city accommodation. The city centre was absolutely rammed as well. People everywhere enjoying a night out. Pubs, bars and eateries all busy at 11pm. By total contrast i got back to stoke at midnight and it was deader than a mortuary, with the A500 closed and half of longton being held up by scaffolding. Saddens me that the city i was born in and love has fallen into such a state. Compare Hanley now with the mid-90s to early 00s- for a smaller city centre it was vibrant with people coming from other parts of the country for our nightlife and clubs. I wouldn't even contemplate an 'out out' night up Hanley now. A midweek trip to the Coachmaker's and then a curry but that's it. In fact I'd pick Stoke town over Hanley.

We have friends who live in Nottingham and we have nights out there quite often…yes it’s a great night out…loads of restaurants and even more pubs and bars. Stoke…I don’t know what to say…my daughter has moved to London for her further education and already she is saying she doesn’t think she will move back to Stoke because there’s nothing to do. My son and his girlfriend are looking at moving to Canada and who can blame them ? I don’t know what the answer is in Stoke. It a hard one to fathom. It felt like another world with the hustle and bustle. The other thing i noticed was the amount of public transport still running as well. Lots of buses and trams. If theres one thing thats probably killed Stoke on trent its the lack of decent transport options. People won't ever go out if they cant get home. Buses are being taken off early now, including on Saturdays. Plus, I don't know why, but getting through to a taxi firm is a challenge in itself, even if you call early. It's not like it's busy when you get into town.

Apart from the city centre it’s no different to any other city Not so sure. Stoke and Liverpool take some beating. Some of those refugees who get out of lorries from Syria etc must want to get back in and go back home when they arrive. Gone from pretty bad to even worse last 10 years or so. Have you been to Liverpool recently?

I can't agree sorry, I find Liverpool has something for everybody... Now if you want depressing try Derby, for a place that I would consider much bigger than Stoke or Hanley that place really is a shit hole and depressing! I work in Crewe, blimey that’s rough You know it's bad when they shut down Wetherspoons

So the people saying they go to Manchester instead of Hanley to get away from the homeless and the dust heads. Have you never walked from Piccadilly station to the Arndale? Many times, it hardly makes MCR shit though.

They shut greggs in longton as well. Sad times in my home town when 2 places that thrive in depressed areas are too depressed to stay open. But not to worry we have a new train station on the horizon......

Hearing that a lot of taxi drivers have taken up deliveroo / Just Eat deliveries, as they are offering more money than a usual taxi fare Guess removes the hassle of having them pesky passengers in the car too
