Man Utd 1 Stoke 0.
Significant for me as it was the first away match that my Dad took me to. I remember being so excited to be going to Old Trafford. And the buzz as we went up the steps and saw the pitch. Awesome to a 11 year old.
I'm sure it was Mark Harrison's debut replacing the suspended Peter Fox who'd been sent off in the 4-4 against Luton. Harrison had a great game making some great saves but we finally cracked late on when Bryan Robson put Utd ahead. Still it was a great experience having the whole thing of the match day feeling I'd got used to but for the first time in another city. A fantastic memory.

Remember my first away game vividly, at highfield road Coventry in 2003. 0-1 win towards the end of the season that put us in a great position to survive. Iwelumo penalty came back off the post, onto the diving keeper’s back and in. Mark Crossley had a blinder.
After years and years of only home matches it’s a very weird sensation being in an away ground for the first time.

That's the weird thing yes, where you are in the minority of fans away from familiar surroundings for the first time.

Went on the train that day Think we beat them 1-0 ( O’Callaghan )in the return match which was a Wednesday night

I was there as well, thought we were going to get a point at least with Harrison's heroics until Robson went through one on one, he looked a great prospect did Harrison until injury fucked him over.

3rd October 1970: my first away game was at Blackpool. 1-1, Dobing scored. I was 9 and left with the impression that away games always included a morning on the beach. By the time I was visiting the likes of Oakwell, I had been safely disabused of that notion!

My first season as a Stokie Chambo and Micky T on fire Good times! It was an ace season. Away form meant we dropped off really challenging for Europe but it was great fun There were some great performances, especially early in the season but it actually got quite toxic at the end of the season. We lost 3-0 to Coventry in our final home match and there was an awful atmosphere. Mark Chamberlain in particular came in for some nasty stick in that game.

When he was subbed he got booed off. Less enlightened days. People were less aware of the dangers of hamstring injuries. His injuries were perceived to be slacking off.

Wtf was chamberlain playing at, but aside from that what a lovely kit in todays football he was fouled by ? Irwin. was this one with the copper fighting the Stokies ( and I swear to god Chambo was kicked off the park in this one and went off after 15 minutes - clearly wrong on that one)

Away form meant we dropped off really challenging for Europe but it was great fun for me it was when Foxy (literally) dropped the ball against ?Southampton when we were 1-0 up at home and they scored to make it 1-1 . We never recovered from that. I was mad at Foxy for a LONG time after that........

I missed all this as I didn't start going to games until late in the 83/84 season, starting properly the season after...picked my time well! If that didn't put me off nothing will.

I was with a well known local football man who won't mind me saying was evicted that day having had his shoe laces removed on arrival and voiced his displeasure at the Stoke mufc supporters just to our right 🙂

My first away game was vs Telford United in the FA Cup, going down 2-1 to the mighty bucks
I used to go to school in Wellington Telford and my mate who was around 15 was on the gate in between the Telford and Stoke fans, so he just opened the gate and let me in
Not the ideal first away game and school the next day was interesting

17 years old, I was approaching my first year in the RAF. Based at R.A.F. Neatishead. I remember a bunch of us hiring a boat, on the Norfolk Broads, to watch the World Cup. Happy times.
