He has years of experience and tonight he played with his head, well and truly engaged and in gear. No stupid passes no wandering out of position. He also looked like he cared. MON has built a good spirit here. I think Michael sees something in Ostigard that he doesn't quite trust, Wilmot is better on the right so in comes Chester. Well done manager and James. It had nothing to do with Ostigard the reason why Chester is playing is because we needed a left footer as Wilmot was not seeing Tymon quick enough because he is right footed so his view was not focused on the left and that was hindering us, no other reason Apart from the fact Chester is right footed....

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/james-chester-stoke-city-praise-6003582“He’s terrific, Chessie, and we saw his quality, composure and the influence he has on the pitch tonight"
“He is a real calming influence within the team too and he really does help the likes of Harry (Souttar) and Ben (Wilmot) through the games, especially during those critical moments.
“When you play with a back three it is all about the combination that you play, and with the three of those tonight I just think we had a perfect blend.
“Harry is Harry, and he is getting better with every game he plays, Ben was really good on the right and he gives us an enormous amount in terms of the quality of his play, and Chessie compliments them so well.
“For me he is still a top, top player and for me, what he does in terms of keeping himself fit and making sure he is available to play is a great example to any young player in the game.”
“The three game weeks are demanding for him because of the issues with his knee, so we have to manage him carefully.
“We made a decision to take him out of the side on Tuesday even though he had been superb in the games against Watford and Hull City recently.
“He is one that you would love to be available every game, but that isn’t possible – so we have to look after him and manage his work load correctly.”

The Sentinel interview sums it up - he is a massively useful part of the squad. Some people need to shelve their slightly ageist agenda and recognise this and back him. Some of the messages radio Stoke read out before the game on Friday regarding his inclusion were ridiculous.

What happens in the dressing room has a huge effect on what happens on the pitch, as we well know.

I’ve spoken to a couple of people who have known him and his family for a long time and they can’t speak highly enough of him as a grounded, intelligent and all round impressive character

We’ve kept 2 clean sheets in the nine games when he hasn’t played in the Championship (Forest and Birmingham) and two when he has (Hull and WBA). I’m pretty sure he was at the heart of defence when we were not conceding last year as well.

how is he the only Stoke player in that side? Unless anyone has watched all the other games, very difficult to comment??? Realistically it was only any of our defenders who could have got into that surely. I don't think any other outfield players, bar the defence, were exceptional, it was a great team effort. The more Souttar goes under the radar the better as far as I'm concerned.
