A friend of mine once said “drinking can take years, but gambling can destroy your life in a minute”. I’ve always accepted that. I have a pretty addictive personality and never saw the need to gamble. Can definitely see how it can be such a big rush.

If you've never read Tony Adams' biography 'Addicted' I'd recommend it, team-mate of Merson but with a different set of problems, How that Arsenal did so well is surprising to say the least.

Adams had captained Arsenal to two titles and was playing for England. But the thing he was proudest of was being the biggest guinness drinker in his local. Bloody hell eh?

I'm a (sober) alcoholic but I can gamble once in a while without any issues at all.
