How long was the ball in play for, second half? After the ‘injury’ on 74, I doubt it was more than 8 minutes.
4 mins extra was a complete joke.
We need a new rule to time the ball in play, say 35 mins per half.

I’m sick of it. Pretty much every game. Today was 6 subs, 3 injuries. And time wasting that the ref told them about it a few times, that wasted more time.

I think it’s worth trialling stopping the clock for injuries and subs but not for when it goes out of play.

Football is a piss poor product as far as value for money is concerned. You pay to watch 90+ minutes and at least a third, probably closer to a half, is wasted every single game.

It’s very easy to manage tho. Just add it all on at the end. A simple 20 seconds per throw in, corner, free kick etc that isn’t taken quickly.
If there were 21 of them all, just add 7 minutes .

Define quickly though? It’s the injuries and subs added time that needs sorting. Maybe give a time clock on set pieces rather than adding it on at the end?

As above. A time limit if you like of say 10 seconds or something from when the player receives the ball. It’s a bit of a rabbit hole and probably wouldn’t work but it is frustrating

If a team has a long throw specialist, refs seem happy to stall play whilst all the big men get into position. Yet for other throws they’re often hurrying the player up.

It was 30 seconds per sub, not sure if it’s still adhered to though. Quickly is exactly that , quick, if a player hasn’t taken the throw or kick within 20 seconds and sometimes more then that needs adding on.

Surely it’s a no brainer but the people in charge of football are dinosaurs that can’t even come up with a blanket rule on offside or handball.

The FIFA laws of the game do not allow the goalkeeper to hold (or even handle) the ball for more than six seconds. If he holds it for a longer time, the opponent is awarded an indirect free kick. Thanks Google.

I've said for a long time now, we should adopt the rugby time keeping model of "clock on, clock off" with the ref having the discretion to stop the clock if, for example, the keeper is taking 30 seconds to kick the ball out of his hands like he was today

One real issue with the game at the moment is the amount of time keepers take when the ball is in their hands.
Bring back the 6 second rule, too often the keepers take 20 plus seconds and it is just ridiculous.

Failing that, a stadium countdown clock which I realise may be difficult to administer for the folks in charge of the beautiful game.

External timekeeper managing a big clock in the corner of the ground would end these disputes.

External timekeeper managing a big clock in the corner of the ground would end these disputes. Fergie could be in charge of that. Man United games would go on for hours in most cases😉

Trouble is when it is in play,we are wasting time passing it back and sideways, even though we are losing ....

It’s enough of a trial watching most games already and people want to extend it to three hours of attritional, stop-start torture with an in-play clock. I can hardly imagine anything worse. Timing is fine, it’s been like this forever and it’s how the game is designed to be played, I really wish this idea would fuck off tbh

Players falling over, coaches keeping the ball off the pitch… We’re being conned and the refs need help.

Also, when Stoke are winning but holding on for dear life, no way do I want an extra 20 minutes. Swings and roundabouts and we only see these types of threads when we've lost and have been hoping the ref gave us an extra 20 mins to equalize. OS.

They should trial exploding footballs. If the keeper has the ball, a timer starts and he has 6 seconds to release it, otherwise it explodes and blows his hands / feet off. To add spice, the opponent has one ‘wild card’ explosion each game that they can use at any time with no notice. Just as they are lining up to take a penalty, “boom”, blow the fucker’s leg off.
Don’t worry about time wasted with the injuries either, players cannot be treated following an explosion. They just have to carry on.

Clamping down on the amount of time teams take to get the ball back in play would be worth thinking about. I just think a stoppable in-play clock would be awful, it’s not conducive to the way the game is played.

What boils my piss is this cobblers when goalkeepers get the ball and flop down and lie there for at least 10 -15 seconds then get up and hold it for another 10 seconds, when was that rule made
