Soft looking midfield again. I don't think it can look any different until we sign a DM. I know you can’t stand him but honestly think Thompson would be a better option than Clucas on that he is at least disciplined.

Yes but I would have replaced him with Thompson.

Clucas as holding mid could be a disaster! Didn't he play left back for us a couple of times when he first arrived? I can't remember if he was good or bad in that position. If he was good (or even OK) then he MIGHT cope at DM.

Brown is a big loss. He's critical to how we play. No he isn’t 😂😂 He is in terms of the pressing.

I’m just praying Sawyers doesn’t slow everything down again.

This is a must win. Questions to be asked if we don’t get three points against a crisis club. Huge problems of course but only lost twice. Obviously things worsened last 48 hours or so but still an ok enough side

That’s a massive risk playing ince there. Let’s hope it pays off. Go either way really, have an absolute blinder scoring and setting two up against his old club or be accountable for a disaster of a mistake and being dragged off.

I think it will be Sawyers again? It's not encouraging - every part of his body language and performance against Huddersfield suggested a man who had already had enough defensive midfield work for a lifetime at West Brom and thought he would be back in his natural position. Five years on from selling N'Zonzi and we still seem to be stockpiling midfielders who all play in the same role. Edit: I sound very negative, but I'm feeling very positive about this season. I think we have a great side that's just missing a defensive midfielder. I'm not sure why we keep dictating first halves and being all over the place in second halves.

I have had to delete my response to you, as I don't want a ban. Your post is despicable. Pfffft, hoping for one of our own to be injured? Lost for words.

Agree we certainly look worlds better than the last few seasons and there are lots of reasons for optimism.

You’d have to imagine Derby will attack our right side for the whole 90 minutes. My thoughts exactly. They’ll have a field day down their left wing. Ostigard will be very busy covering for Ince

Slight surprises
Powell didn't walk into the team (which is a good thing really keeps everyone on their toes) Brown getting dropped (he's probably knackered) Sima starting (conspiracy theories anyone...) Ince at RWB - that is brave Powder puff midfield consisting of 3 x 8s
Positives
we are just going to score more goals than them....... Got to be a lot of goals in that team Bench is scary good in the attacking areas
Goaannn Stoke

Not wanting to drop his captain could have had an effect re signing a DM, it would have to be Allen that makes way if everyone was fit.

Brown is a big loss. He's critical to how we play. But not to scoring goals. Ince shouldn’t be on the pitch and I’ve played Brown there miles before him.

I'd like more steel in the lynchpin role id agree. In a back 4, its a requirement, I think we have back 5 it more of a nice to have. Three at the back means that's not a defining issue. People keep saying this and I think the actual performances suggest it isn’t true at all.

As anyone knows, I think Ince is pretty useless.O’Neill must see something in him, so fair enough, it will be interesting to see how he does. I can only see 3 people who can tackle- those being the Centre Halves, so this could definitely be a game where if Derby score 3, we think we can score 4. Let’s do the best we can !

Has he ever really impressed in that role though? He looked better higher up in the week I thought. We really need a bit of physical presence in the middle.

Clucas as holding mid could be a disaster! It probably won't be Clucas as the holder. All three of those players are number 8s.
