Gareth Owen mentioned his finishing - and when you see that winner against Portugal and the late one today, it really does look classy. Very Harry Kane-like. Strongish (and only going to get stronger as he fills out), physical, decent in the air and fantastic finishing. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-academy-emre-tezgel-5656853Tezgel is still officially an under-16 – the England youth international is heading into Year 11 at Painsley Catholic College, in Cheadle – but he hardly missed a game at under-18s level last season and has been training with the under-23s this summer. Owen said: “He’s a Harry Kane type centre-forward. That gets banded about but his movement is good, he can hold the ball up and he’s decent in the air. His main attribute, though, is his finishing and that’s what good centre-fowards have. “He plays like a season pro, pulling off at an angle, giving little nudges to the centre-back and making space. It’s great to have that bank of knowledge already at his age. “He has scored goals at every level and he’s scored goals for England. We’ve got high hopes.”

If the Coates family pay of the lads family so he doesn't go to Chelsea or Man Citeh does this count towards our debt allowance for ffp purposes? Is there any way we can keep him?

He's got to go into the U23's sharpish Can always put him back in the U18's Going to be unlikely that we will keep him😠 Possibly. Give him a clear pathway and a decent wage though (based on incentives) and we might keep him. It’s difficult though isn’t it. Is he good enough to be on the bench semi regularly in the next 12-18 months? No idea. But that’s the sort of offer we will need to make to make it resonate I reckon. We can't legally give him a wage until he is 17 next September though - can we?

Lost that largely through terrible goalkeeping.

I have zero idea if he’s good enough but we’ve certainly got to look at Sankoh and where he ended up by the end of what would have been his 1st year as a scholar. So that was on the bench of a Bundesliga club. The same time frame for Tezgel for that is the end of next season I think.

Gets a 'full time' scholarship wage which is basically apprenticeship salary, 17 is when they can get a full time salary of whatever is offered and a max 3 year deal until he's 18

And despite being in Bundesliga 2 before he joined they’re one of the bigger clubs in Germany.

I think there is probably rules on just giving the lads family money, a house or a car or whatever regardless if it came from the club directly or not, not sure what the rules are on say things like giving jobs with the club or bet 365 etc etc

Well after reading the last 3 pages, write ups, reports, and the like, surely this lad has to be on Scholes' priority 'to do list' ?... and get him tied down to some sort of long term commitment
He seems mustard....

Cant sign any form of contract until he is 17, lets be honest the chelseas and man citys will have been aware of him from probably 9 or 10 years old so the fact he is still here now unlike the unamed kid who went to liverpool hopefully means something.

We can't legally give him a wage until he is 17 next September though - can we? Is 17 a new thing to have a professional contract ? Was wondering the same. So some of the players who have suited up and played in premier league games for various clubs have not been on professional contracts? Or is it a non-prem status thing? Makes no sense to me, but I also don't make (or even try to interpret) the rules.

I think it was introduced to try and ensure that kids finished their education before embarking on a professional career

"Emre Tezgel, who only turned 16 on September 19, is being primed for first team football at Stoke City, although one suspects his best years might be away from the Championship club."
Thank You very bloody much The Sun!!!!

If he's 16 he's allowed to play with the first team isn't he? Looks like he knows where the net is, let's get him out there

He needs some U23 games ASAP Let's how that goes first Not saying a promotion to first team is impossible this season but seems unlikely

It would be nonsensical to get in the way of that.

Their headmaster said it would be a better education than anything they would miss at school. How right he was and how things have changed in only 10 years both for Stoke and the education system.

Yeah and if he got a career ending injury at the age of 17 and had no qualifications they would have done a great job! School's job isn't to prepare them for one particular career but to prepare them to be fully functioning adults whatever path they choose to take otherwise we might as well go back to the days when for example farmer's children weren't in school throughout September because they were needed to work on the farm. I remember one parents' evening I had the dad of one of the laziest 7 year olds I ever taught and I told him truthfully that his son was bright but stubbornly refused to put any effort into his work so was behind other children in the class. His reply was? " I'm not too bothered about his academic achievements he's a brilliant footballer, in Forest's academy and they say he's the best 7 year old they've ever had." That would be 12 years ago so I'm waiting to see him play for Forest sometime soon. (When I told the football teacher at school he'd got a talent coming up he said "He's not even the best in his year group but dad's already told me about him.")

In my time as a teacher, I have come across a few parents who were in denial about their offspring's shortcomings. There is little you can do about it, but I usually got the blame! I do think it is important that promising youngsters (football wise - or any other sport for that matter) keep up with their education as only a tiny proportion of them will make it to the top.

Oh absolutely one of my brothers was an exceptional footballer, at 12 he was playing for Staffordshire u18 and approached by a number of local clubs, that soon dropped off after he was involved in a road accident that took years to recover from.
