I thought they were all immortal. Not in the "what a legend" way, but literally. Sadly, apparently not.
What a drummer. Rest in peace.

I’m just so shocked and saddened by this. We are all mortal I know, but I just want to think of the joy and pleasure Charlie and The Stones have given to so many people. Even though they haven’t made what you’d call essential music for many years, they remained a great live draw right up to the current tour. I last saw Charlie and the Stones at Coventry, and they were absolutely brilliant, you just marvelled how they could still be that good. RIP Charlie Watts.

I remember first seeing The Stones at Wembley and Leeds in 1981, aged 15 and thinking at the time (absolutely genuinely) how incredibly lucky I was to see them before they popped their clogs. There wasn't really such a thing as rock stars aged above 40 in those days ...
RIP Charlie, you total and utter legend!

RIP Charlie. I wonder if Keith will come out of retirement and snort his ashes. An underrated drummer compared to the size of the Stones and from what I've seen in his interviews, a decent well grounded individual. Sleep well fella!

Yet another legend passes. There won't any left before long. A great jazz drummer outside of The Stones and a quiet unassuming man who always seemed out of place in that band, but an essential part none the less. RIP Charlie and thanks for the music.

My favourite Charlie Watts moment is when he starts to disappear under a sea of foam in this video.
Sleep well Charlie

One hell of a drummer in one hell of a band.
Yet another rock and roll legend bites the dust. How did he make it to 80 with the "lifestyle" the Stones led over the years.
RIP Charlie !

Rip Charlie, not a rip snorting drummer of your moons and bonham, nor was he a starr, but you can’t take away he’s drummed for one of the biggest rock acts of all time. Consistently a quality performer you can hear his drumming a mile off , also in my own opinion the coolest of all the stones. Rest in peace Charlie , no other drummer could of done what you did and also made gimme shelter sound that good .legend

RIP Charlie, iconic drummer in a legendary band. Didn't get to see them until 1995 at the Don Valley Stadium, too young in the 60s and early 70s then too broke and then decided it was too late to see them until a friend needed someone to go with in 1995 and persuaded me. They were superb and played the songs you wanted to hear. www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-rolling-stones/1995/don-valley-stadium-sheffield-england-1bd6f988.htmlGot to see them a second time a few years back with the lad in Coventry as mentioned above just wonderful to see the band with him.

I went on a bus organised by Mike Lloyd music in Newcastle, and yes they were brilliant that night.

Drummers are so underrated in top bands and rarely get the plaudits like the obvious front men and guitarists get.
Although the joke ringo wasn’t in the best drummer in the Beatles gets bandied a lot ringos drumming like Charlie watts is all about timing. Not just adding the noise but that tap tap 1 2 1 2 that keeps the rhythm of the songs going.
