What are the best outdoor screws. Stainless steel i presume? It’s for wood. Going to try fix a pergola that a few pieces have rotted. Think i will stain it once done.

I’d go for galvanised price wise, pretty strong and weather proof. Just not quite as strong and weatherproof as stainless. But for what you’re doing I think galvanised are the best option.

This or I would go for decking screws Suppose it depends on timber thickness, decking screws are fine for anything under about 50mm

Great performance last night Bill.

Yellow Zinc coated screws offer good anti corrosion for outdoor use. Failing that have you considered a good old fashioned nailing? Would a good nailing work the same? I would have to imagine, no matter how well done, a hard nailing could be rough by the end. Perhaps a long screw, slowly, would be just the job.

Remember, don't just blindly put the screw in without a little forethought. Make sure to pre-drill the hole and then run the screw threads over some wax to help the screw go in easier, especially helpful if the screw is a bit lengthy.

This or I would go for decking screws "I walked into B&Q the other day and this bloke in an orange and black uniform asked me if I wanted decking. Fortunately, I got the first punch in and that was that. But others may not be as lucky so be on your guard." A viz classic
