I’d rather we had kept Collins 😂 Even then getting 12m in and spunking 5.5m on this lad seems particularly daft. I'm on about all the signings tbh. I think we sold/sacrificed Collins to fund our whole summer business.. let's see how successful it'll be. What we’ve done will have cost way more than 12m.

Christ , some of the comments on here, the guy is young, tall, mobile, has been captain for them in a few pre season friendliest, and more importantly, he wants to play for Stoke and has a point to prove, rather than sit on the bench, if he signs, then I for one will give him all my support agree with all that but fee seems OTT hopefully it's heavily based on appearances, goals promotion e.t.c. & no sell on if we are paying a bigger fee

Skybet & Bet 365 have odds of evens that Nige will call him Sturridge at some point in the first game

Would imagine the up front fee will be somewhere around £3m.

A hungry 23yo who's desperate to make it. If it would have been reported as £2.5m (which it probably is initially) there'd be a lot less fainting!

How reliable is this 5.5M fee? Their version of Pete Smith plus one of the main Sky Sports reporters who covers Bmouth. So that certainly seems to be the headline figure - but hopefully it's a much lower base figure with oodles of add-ons That's not usually how fees are reported though is it, we don't usually get to find out what the potential TOTAL might be? For example, we got £12 million for Collins but we have no idea what the deal could potentially amount to eventually.

Compared to the option of Vokes it’s a huge improvement.

5.5 mill has Levy at Spurs got something to do with this. We usually get shafted by them.

£5.5m for a striker who scored less than Brown last season.
Fuck off.

I don’t want us to sign him, purely because the illiterate fuck who sits behind me is guaranteed to call him Sturridge and it’ll annoy me how stupid he is.

Sad to see him go. Think he will be a good poacher. Better in a front two rather than lone striker. Gives the team a physical edge that we lack. Let’s see how we use the money but in our position this is decent money

8 goals in 1781 minutes in the Championship according to transfermarkt.com. Lots of things can look shit on face value can’t they? (Credit to poster a few pages back)-—-—-— He’s scored a goal every 222 minutes at Championship level. For comparison: Campbell: One per 172 Carroll: One per 182 Surridge: One per 222 Fletcher: One per 223 Afobe: One per 225 Vokes: One per 236 Gregory: One per 313 Brown: One per 722

So we shell out £5.5m for a young English striker with international experience and likely significant potential. What happens…. Meltdown and disbelief. FFS what do Stoke fans want. Shall we just give him a chance at least. 👏👏👏 Stoke for an imaginative signing. 👏👏👏 for putting the money up. Let’s judge the value for money in 12 months shall we. Honestly FFS

On the contrary, I'd say fees are quite often reported like that, not least as it generates nice click-bait headlines. It's one of the reasons you sometimes see massively different fees being reported for the same transfer depending where you look. In this case, we've only heard about the fee from Bournemouth journalists so it's not hard to see why they might want to talk it up as much as possible. The word "total" is doing a hell of a lot work in that tweet!
