Am I the only one who thought he was magnificent in his defensive role this afternoon?

Yeah I think he went under the radar a bit today. IF he plays as the holding midfielder and plays with discipline like in his Swansea days then I'm happy for him to stay.

Am I the only one who thought he was magnificent in his defensive role this afternoon? He won't keep up that standard. I know for a fact that bayern is working in his cave in the bowels of the earth sticking pins into a little wax doll he has made - he calls it Joe!

If you really try hard, it's just possible to feel sorry for him. In theory, anyway.

Am I the only one who thought he was magnificent in his defensive role this afternoon? I was really surprised, totally different outlook, mindset and discipline as to last season, he actually got agitated and frustrated when some decisions didnโt go our way. By seeing him the least today was the most Iโve seen Allen in a Stoke shirt. Apart from being uselessly short at challenging in the air and not having the build to bully midfields - today he took that position by the balls and squeezed it good. Iโm his biggest critic and today he changed my mind quite a bit.

Cracking game today, very disciplined. I thought there were alot of positives, I won't make any bold statements as to where we will finish but it looks alot more promising than I thought possible. Three more quality additions, right back right winger/mid and a forward needed.

Iโm the first to criticise him but that role today suits him & it stops him from doing the things that I criticise him for.
Can he maintain those levels and that discipline over a season I donโt know but if he does he wonโt get many more complaints from me.
Iโm extremely encouraged though that it does seem like they favour Powell & Mario in the starting eleven, I was convinced it would be either or

His best role is to stay put and rove around that space between midfield and defence getting tackles in and returning the ball back to Vranฤiฤ or Powell, not floundering around like a headless chicken trying to be an attacking midfielder.

I think Allen's performances often reflect what is going on around him.
If other players are playing well he complements them and plays well. If other players are playing poorly, he appears to be rushing around a lot and achieving nothing, no matter how hard he is trying.
Last season I feared that he was on the slide and heading toward retirement, one of the main reasons for our poor season along with Clucas and the usual suspects. So far this season he seems refreshed and playing a constructive role. Maybe he is slowing down and actually contributing more.

I agree with this and heโs playing the DM role like he did for Wales allowing the other two to provide the creativity. Maybe the Whelan role but my only concern for him to fit this all season would be his heading ability and strength on the ball to do it all season? I guess especially if we are to mount a challenge? Still hoping we will bring a DM in and have a pool of Vrancic, Powell, Allen and Clucas to compliment.

Is "magnificent" an appropriate descriptor for a player in a pre-season friendly?

Usually decent in that role , happy for him to play there this season , shame cousins went now Mikel has gone because I guess some games we may need a bit more height as well there, depending on opposition but him, Powell, Vrancic and Clucas are a good mix and young Porter looks like he can improve a lot and has confidence .
