Souttar could be back for the opening day if the Aussies get knocked out in the group stags maybe? And still a question about whether he'd risk Powell and Vrancic - or stick one of Clucas and Thompson in. We could yet see another midfielder come in too? Doughty could be an interesting one at LWB. Think it's been a while since he's played there regularly though. Interesting to see if he's still got that searing pace, post-injury! theathletic.com/2282887/2020/12/30/alfie-doughty-charlton-athletic/Doughty slotted in at left-back, impressed everyone and from there, only missed one game until he injured his hamstring at Northampton in October. Although initially a full-back, it was not long before he moved further forwards, playing as a wing-back and eventually a winger, on either flank. Pace is the first thing you notice about Doughty. Remarkable pace. Relentless pace. The sort of pace that makes defenders cower and do very silly things indeed. Doughty has already become one of those players that defenders would prefer to foul and accept a booking, rather than risk them getting anywhere near goal.

Looks like 3-5-2. Be interesting to see who plays further forward out of Mario & Nick. I reckon he’ll play powell deeper for the legs. I also think powell is only playing CM because it’s crewe. He obviously wants to get minutes into Mario, but being respectful to Powell, Crewe and Ashton.

I remember Daniel James doing that to us for Swansea he murdered us! Pace!

Barring injuries, that’s our season opener team. No more pace than last year

Crewe’s Twitter feed 40 minutes ago says no stream tonight The Stoke say it will be streamed on the Stoke City+ channel for those who have it. Does not appear to be showing it.

Yeah must be I guess. Wasn’t aware he could play there. Comfortable anywhere down the left I believe.

Would have thought the stream would have been charged at say £5 and proceeds added to the lad’s fund

Mickey Mouse operation as per usual. Symptomatic of the way the club operates.
